Family fun away from the TV/Wii

Bought a 17' Triton duck/fish boat a few months ago with the intention of spending some family time on it during the warmer months. FINALLY got around to doing this (after being THIS close to selling it but being swayed by my 5yr old's tears...'i will miss it daddy!').

Spent a few hours Saturday crabbing a local creek and even came back with a light snack (5 keepers). My wife (due in Sept) did a great job pulling traps while i struggled to keep the boat lined up without running over lines The little guy listens great on the boat and loves seeing the crabs, keepers or not. His favorite bit is when i asking him to lift the motor...just too cool to see his smile!

I'm pretty guilty about hanging out in an air conditioned house and playing Wii games or watching racing so it was good to get out for the afternoon.

Good times!

We have a boat and I enjoy going out on it with dad. But the boat has some issues and neither of us have the time to fix it so it hasnt seen the light of day in about 3 yrs....

ours has...umm....issues too. it was a freshwater boat previously and the wiring is not Ancor tinned stuff. So we cut the motor to pick up some traps and in one shot the trolling motor and big motor don't want to work. Turns out it's just a corroded connection at the batteries which was an easy fix. The good news was the tide was coming IN and the wind blew us to a bank where worst case scenario we'd sit and fish till we got a tow. Was able to diagnose and fix in a few minutes but still a bit worrisome when you have a pregnant woman and a 5yr old with you.

What sort of crabs do you have over there that live in creeks?

I have been to MD to visit my wife's folks... their definition of a "creek" differs substantially from the civilized world

In the case of my wife's area, the "creek" was brackish water due to proximity with the bay, and was around 100 yards across with some sizable boats coming and going.

We have a standing Sunday morning tradition. We wake up, dad makes breakfast, and we head to the beach for a few hours. We normally leave the beach by 2 PM and go home to play in the pool for the rest of the afternoon.

Its good to get out as a family and enjoy the outdoors. I am about to head down that slippery slop and get a small boat to enjoy as a family as well. Looking in the 19-21 range.

Blue crabs....one of the best foods on the planet.

A 'creek' in this part of Md refers to a tidal creek that feeds either the Chesapeak or (in our case) one of the coastal bays (Assawoman, Chincoteague, Newport, etc). The creek we were at is maybe 90' across, gets to 6-8' deep in the 'channel' on high tide and has a very silty bottom. The kinda place you'd hunt ducks!

We are on the boat almost every weekend - it's the one thing we do as a family - sans video games
