uber nice places to stay in durango colorado?
well as some of you know or dont i am slated to GET MARRIED sometime this summer. no date set or etched in granite yet. known her for 8 yrs gone out for 3.5 yrs. very happy and i have been DEE-VORCED for going on 10 joyfull happy years. i am getting uber high performance 4 season tires for the p-car thru patrick moto for this journey of around 2 weeks. my DOT R michelin cups are toast and i really didnt want to spin off into space on a wet road for a remembrance of getting married!
basically we are looking for a really really nice place to stay in durango. gen palmer looked real nice downtown. i have stayed at numerous notell motels in my past life in sales. but we are looking for something uber nice for a coupla days. then we will buzz around to various places getting reasonable priced rooms. but first coupla days looking for something vey POSH! any ideas????? dont care if its a ranch/purgatory/tammaron. just really nice. thanks |

I grew up in Durango and I will think about what would be best. Uber Posh is not really Durango's forte, I'd push you towards Telluride for that.
I think this is better than the General Palmer. I've heard recently that the Palmer hasn't been kept as nice as it once was. Check this place out in the mean time: http://www.rochesterhotel.com/ What is your plan while you are there?

no advice bro..but CONGRATULATIONS on the upcoming nuptials!!! hey when she flips a 180 and makes you sell some firepower, can i be put in line for the Socom? that is, if my wife lets me...hahahha.
last time i slept in durango, i think i was in a tent. with a dude named larry, it wasnt fun. but we did break our personal record for the longest single day hike.

hahahaha all the times i have hunted colorado have been unit 77 and the unit adjacent to eastern boundry of the ute rez and west of durango north of the highway.. reason know it very well. when i was a long haired hippie dippie regis college ski team giant slalom kind of guy.........they outlawed downhill a coupla years befo my time otherwise i'd be plastered on a tree somewhere in colorado. i used to drive from denver to phx for holidays. some years weather was so bad(yuck yuck ) i HAD to stay with my buddies at ft lewis college. oh damn mom and dad, i'll have to rough it and sleep on the floor until the weather gets better maybe next holiday scam. anyway we all had jeeps and dirty bikes. been all over hells acre around there riding the passes. as a MATTER OF FACT not 20 feet from me is a coveted (more ways than one) old sign, i wont mention whose that states "stoney pass road-4 wheel drive only" stoney pass was the ONLY trail toll road into silverton from durango before the railroad was blown in. i think otto mears owned the road then moved on into the railroad pathfinder glory. anyway heres what we wanna do: hit justice of the peace mon -fri 8-5pm for marriage lic. with both of our passports. then its official. then off to a nice cabin/lodge. on a lake with trout would be COOL! we both fish. and she is a TROUT FREEK! or on the animas river. doesnt matter as long as food munchies rum etc nearby. we are taking the p-car so NO DIRT ROADS THANKYOU. of course one of my evil sub plans is to get latest greatest colorado hunting regs, so if we are not drawn here in az. younger son and i will blast up and get an over the counter any antlered tag. we both enjoy trains and she has not been on the durango silverton so theres one day. also thought of buzzing to chama and going on it also. i have been on both many times before in my life and another time doing them is always a blast for dyed in the wool frakazoid train freek like me. picture city. my computer is already groaning . so really looking for the best durango has to offer. shes already been to telluride with me and its days of being nice let alone affordable were gone in the late 70's. we used to hang there alot riding the passes and spelunking. was gonna give her the buzz over to delores and rico also. so really just 2 nights in durango or surrounding area at a nice place and then hit the lil flea bagger cabins along the way. since we are gonna be in the p-car its obvious we cant take a hell of alot. so thats really what we are looking for. |

admitted she doesnt like the report or recoil of her model 60 smith und wesson. but i pity da po fool who ever pisses her off, when she has to use it for self defense. also i have not set her up with a 12 gauge or a .308. buttttt.............she sure can shoot the hell outta da .22's.
on our next monthly 4th sunday i have asked and she has expressed interest in doing da combat wombat boogie down .22 match shoot. now what guy wouldnt want to get her involved in that. i can already hear it. "honey i like the uber zoomy spendy lightweight ruger 22/45 unlimited mega optic with the suppressor!". when discussing suppressors she asked if i could do it to her model 60! and i replied "FO SURE" plan on waiting about a 1000 years for your class III papers to get signed off! i will admit the more i get her involved in the shooting sports(hell i wish the range was open today), that it is a win win situation for me. especially camping in da middle of BFE! my goal is to get her to shoot a .44 lever action/a .30/.30 lever, and the socom and see what she is most comfortable with. REASON??? should we ever have a bear problemo and i am indisposed or not close enough to a weapon she could take matters into her own hands and deal with the problem in a correct manner. example: im fishing in river/stream/lake and bear gets btwn her and me and i dont have a weapon. then it comes in damn handy to have someone proficient and not afeared of a firearm and knows how to properly aim/fire/reload until incident over. hell usually with black bears the FIRST BANG over their heads and they is running for the hills. also we do have here in the lower dezerts and up north a LOT OF RABIES floating around various critters. so all in all once ya leave home around here yer preeetyy much on your own. its hotter than hell here today already at 6am. cant wait to get outta this frying pan. yesterday 115 degrees with high humidity. finally bent over and grabbed my ankles and shut swamp coolers off and turned A/C units on. its summer here big time now! |
