New I-Phone..love it..hate AT&T
Wife and I are long time MAC users and have waited patiently to end contract with Verizon and go to I-Phone, we just got two new G3S and the phones are great but man does AT&T service suck..bad reception at home and my wifes phone will call out buy won't receive calls yet..AT&T says it sometimes takes 72 hours for the transfer of the number due to "updating" of new system. We are giving them an honest try but at this rate they are probably going back to Apple and us to Verizon. Anybody else having these issues?

Where do you live? I'm in Los Angeles and thinking of going with an IPhone in November when my Verizon contract expires. I hear in LA that Verizon coverage is better than AT&T, but it depends where you live and work, I suppose.

My 3GS works great. AT&T service has always worked well for me. Verizon sucks at the house. It's like their cell tower is blocked and my house is a blind spot.
Don't know if you have a blocked tower. But you might try the phone elsewhere to see I you can get better service. I hear there is a way to reset you service/reception on the phone to improve reception. I haven't tried it but it's in the menu. Google it. |

I love my 3G and get stellar reception just about everywhere. Even better than moms BB and dads Rugby.

My 3G works very well and no issues w ATT, perhaps it is a local issue. I would never go back to Verizon, actually going to switch my wife over very soon and go w/ a family plan.

When I had a tire blowout and was stranded in the desert last weekend, my Verizon signal would not last long enough to get through the prompts for my roadside assistance. Then I remembered I also had my work Blackberry with me, which is through AT&T. Worked like a charm and saved the day.

I worked in the cell industry for years. The technology is quite standardized now but placement of cell towers and the impact of geography, bodys of water, etc. can vary signal quality greatly by provider depending on your location. Over the years the only service that's worked at my home is Verizon as I live near a lake. I've had Cellular One/AT&T (where I worked), T-Mobile, Nextel and Sprint at one time or another. If you otherwise end up loving the phone and service is good elsewhere you may look into a localized signal booster for your home.

...just had a meeting with our Verizon rep and he said that the I Phone 4G will be on the Verizon network end of 2009/beginning 2010...depending on your location.

I could ask him again for that info. As far as credible, I don't know. He told me about the Storm 2 before I heard about it on the internet. Not sure. I'll send him an email. Our meeting was just last Thursday. I'll let you know.

I have a 3GS and the service has been acceptable. About the same number of dropped calls as Sprint.
I bought (4) iphones when the S came out. (2) worked before I left the store and (2) required tech support to get them going. Love the iphone but do have a wish list for my next one. 1. Needs a camera flash. 2. Needs to allow flash video players. 3. Needs a MS Office editing function like most of the other phones. 4. Needs to be louder so us old guys can hear the other person on the phone. 5. Needs better battery management software. 6. The compass needs to be able to work next to an automotive compass.

I just got the 3G. Where I live (Northeast louisiana) NO at&t 3G network.... I still love the iphone. I jailbroke mine. Would not have an iphone that is not jailbroke. You can jailbreak and unlock the 3G iphone pretty easy.

Below is our Verizon Rep's reply:
"My guess is middle of next year but I am not sure yet." That's not a lot to go on.

My wife is making rumblings about wanting an iPhone. But we're in a Verizon family share plan that isn't up for another year. Can I get an iPhone and make it compatible with Verizon?
