Rhythm Section Treat

I was a bass player. many of you are bass players. I don't hear lyrics. I hear the rhythm section in music. This morning on the radio I heard Rolling Stone by Dylan. That guitar does a wonderful job of handling the rhythm. I'm not even sure there is a bass in the song. I'm talking about that FAT hollow-body (probably Gibson) rhythm guitar thing in that song. Gotta love those old hollow-body Gibsons.

Then the station backed that up with Happy Together. Does everyone know how unique that song is? Next time you hear that song, pay attention. There is a snare drum being played using a brush, I believe. And there are voices. And the only other instrument is a bass guitar. Bass, voices and a snare drum.

Anyhoo......it was an audio treat for me, to hear those two songs back to back on the radio.

I'm a guitar guy, many yrs experience. I get a kick now out of jammin with my 17 yr old guitar son and 21 yr old. drummer son.
I told the 17er to listen to the drums and bass and not me. He was tuning in and doing a much better job of playing rhythm. You got it right, the bass and drums are the foundation, everything else is just the sauce and gravy.
