Walter Cronkite passes
Another legend passes.
Walter Cronkite just passed today. Did not always agree with him but sad to see him go. |
|
god speed uncle walter. r.i.p.
|
I grew up with him in my living room. It was always good to have him there.
Godspeed. |
And that is the way it is on July 17, 2009
|
this is wal-ter Cron-kite and thats the way it is
|
He was one of the reasons I wanted to go into the news business... Unlike some of these jackals we have reading the teleprompters today he was a true great.
God bless your soul Mr. C.; in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen. |
The passing of real icon. R.I.P. Walter. You were a class act.

TV journalism died so long ago, as it was folded in under the 'entertainment' department, it must've been horrible for him to watch. Godspeed.
BTW, Cronkite was a pretty cool guy off the tube -- he played around with racing for a bit. |

I still will miss him but he was one of the major people who changed news to the way it is today, and IMHO it was not a good change. |
The reality was that he was a great TV actor. Even though he was a 'news journalist', he performed every night - reading the news. We all trusted him & news in general - far more than we should have in hindsight.

Walter Cronkite finished 40th in a Lancia Appia Zagato in the 1959 12 Hours of Sebring, 48 laps behind Gurney, Daigh, and Gendebien's Ferrari TR.
Don't bad-mouth the "Father" of our country. I guess that he had some kind of first-hand experience of life... |
Walter was the beginning of the end of objective TV news. We didn't know about 'liberal bias' in those days as we were naive to the max. Now it's obvious to everyone except the present day "Kool Aide" drinkers ..... Sorry he's dead, we all will be someday. Won't miss him at all.

Walter Cronkite was a fratenity (Chi Phi) brother of mine, although a different chapter and many years my senior, and every year one of the requirements of our chapter's pledge classes was to get a signed letter from him by sending him a letter. And without fail he would send back a personal letter acknowledging the efforts of a bunch of stoners (early - mid 70's). First liberal TV journalist or not, he was what I regarded as the regular face of TV news when I was a kid and it's sad to see him pass.
Godspeed, Walter |
His book on sailing and his life was titled "Airborne". Was a good read on a long layover.
|
I'll remember him fondly as the older fellow who took us on RV trips around the country...oh...that's not him.
"This war is un-win-able"....at the end of the Tet offensive, during the battle for Hue. He passed at an opportune time with many egalitarian political promises without the headaches of decades of payments. Thanks, Cronkers. Helen Thomas should be next. |
the guy was history... media is so different now. Walter was first class in his field. The best.

He was old in the '60's.
|
I always loved his line "Stay classy San Diego".
