Kids dirt bike feed back needed....50 cc
Hello Pelicanites,
Looking to purchase a 50 cc dirt bike for my 6 year old...These bikes are so friggen cute,i think i will be the one riding it most of the time ![]() I like the Honda 50 cc as it is 4 stroke but then i like the way Kawasaki's and Yamaha's seats are ( inclined on to the gas tank ) .. So please help me decide which one is a better bike... Thanks Yasir |

The used one...seriously. There are a lot of small bikes on the market in my area with little to no hours on them. Dad buys new, kid doesn't really like it all that much, dad sell bike.
I have never bought a bike or quad runner new. Other good thing is that your son can ride the used ones if you aren't planning on surprising him.

The exception is the Honda 50. There are a lot of teens buying them and putting bigger bars and stiffer springs on and beating them.

Avoid the temptation of the cheap Chinese copies of these. I actually picked up one from Goodwill for $150. It looked almost new. I spent hours trying to dial in the carb. Finally took it back. Even when it was sort of running well the sequential tranny was scary... very hard to operate.

I bought my Boy at +/- six years a PT-50 Yamaha. Great little bike, no clutch or gears. He
Now rides a Honda 250 @ age 14. The PT's are two stroke. Good luck!! Regards p930man |

Yes the used bikes hold their value well. The good news is that you can sell it for what you paid for it a few years later. They never go below $500.
I bought a Yamaha 80cc 4 wheeler for my little ones to ride around the property. I ride it more than they do. No more walking to the back garage - I take the bike. I recommend a 4 stroke with a battery for ease of use if possible. And that is coming from a guy who has been riding 2 stroke race bikes since I was way too little to be riding race bikes. It sure is nice pushing a button and having the bike start everytime. I'm getting too old to kick 2 strokes with gummed up main jets from sitting too long between rides.

6? Shoot, I bought my daughter her Honda CRF50F for Christmas when she was 3. Of course, I had to put training wheels on it (Wheels for Tots). I looked for used ones, and they were just about the cost of a brand spankin new one, so I just picked up the new one.
With the new lead law for Childrens toys, I don't believe you can buy the new 50' s anymore. Or so that is what someone told me. We have had our 50 for three years, and its pretty sturdy. I just change the oil and plug, and off it goes. Bill |

Same for us, we got a Yamaha Pee Wee 50, its about 12 years old now and still goes well. easy to ride and not to fast for a 6 YO.
