Anyone else have ATI Radeon ATIKMDAG errors

I have a Dell XPS 420(?) quad core 6600(?) with a ATI Radeon HD2400 graphics card now out of warranty.

Things were fine until I bought a 1920(?) x 1080 wide screen as a second monitor to enhance the picture window effect (not affect here). After a search I found this FAQ from an AMD Gaming Forum pretty much sums up my experience.
Quote:

This FAQ will attempt to help many people with their ATIKMDAG errors and ideally educate them on what they are and are not caused by. Firstly I feel I must explain TDR.

However, Before you post or read this FAQ hoping for help0 ask yourself the following questions:

-Do I run a version of windows vista or Win 7?

-Do I see a message pop up or appear in my error log that states "such and such display driver has stopped responding and was recovered"?

-Do these crashes seem to appear with no direct cause (i.e. i do something differently every time they happen)

If you answered Yes to ALL of these three questions continue on, if you answered No then you probalby have another issue that more than likely revolves around hardware. If you are unsue then by all means read on.

Sometimes it cycles into the BSOD

After reading 32 pages it seems like a circular reference where MS is pointing at ATI and ATI pointing at MS.

Anyone have this problem and how did you solve it?

I meant to put this in off topic Could a moderator help?

This is a HUGE issue with multiple monitors and ATI cards. A google search will show you many peoples pain (including mine). No real fix yet!

This is pissing me off and become intolerable. How come there is no class action lawsuit or at least a MAC commercial about this.

Do I have any choice but to go back to one monitor?

You could add a second video card.

I only had problems using two cards (3870 identical) and three monitors. One card failed and I recently replaced it with another ATI chipset card that was not identical (4570) and resumed three monitor operation. No abends yet.

Are you using DVI cable to monitor?

If yes, update to newest Catalyst drivers and enable "Reduce DVI-frequency on hi-res screens" and "use alternative DVI" in ATI Control Center.

Also, vacuum all crud from graphic card heat sink, it might be overheating.
