1971 Mexican Prison "Breakout" w/ helicopter
Anyone remember this, I was a little young at the time but I remember seeing the Charles Bronson flick "Breakout" in the theater which was loosely based on the event.
We had a family friend when we lived back in Socal who knew one of the pilots (there was a fixed wing part of the operation as well). Roger Hershner, the actual helicopter pilot who pulled off the escape died just last year. Joel David Kaplan, the guy who was busted out, has completely disappeared, an internet search turns up very little on the guy (not surprising). As far as I know, Mexico never went after extradition of Kaplan. I just finished reading the book "The 10 Second Jailbreak" about the escape, interesting character, Kaplan. Anyone else hear of anything about Kaplan or the escape in the years since?
