Walk Right In

Sit right down.

Two weeks ago she shows up on the farm, very composed and respectful...works into the pack in hours, number three on our dog hit parade. The two Australian pups are working breeds and have jobs, so they want Lily (for her tiger stripes) to earn her keep.

She is about a year old, has had puppies (the vet tech who rents on the farm thinks so) and will be fixed next week.

I am a complete sucker for strays. I have never had Bit Bull, but so far the audition has been perfect. Sometimes they find you.

I think so, but I am new to this breed. She has adapted well. I frankly was a little worried but she seems to have no vices.

Sometimes they find you is right.

Have been "found" many times over the years and what I have discovered is at first it seems it's only them that has a "need" but over time you find that you also had a need that they will ultimately fulfill.

Good luck to you both, she looks sweet.

"Cujo?"

varmint 07-21-2009 08:45 AM

Actually most of the pitbulls I have known have been sweet, affectionate dogs. They think they are lap dogs but they weigh 90 pounds.

Seriously? She walked right in from out of nowhere? Great story. That alone makes her a keeper. She probably knew she was heading to the right place (your farm).

I love pit bulls too. Maybe one day I'll get one...

gatotom 07-21-2009 08:59 AM

congrats, Seahawk, looks like a job well done.

Yes, I believe that they somehow find you and not visa versa, isn't that how we all found are wives???

The only vices will be the ones you allow, dogs are truly man's best friend.

Just an update on my son at USNA, during his summer training block he actually got to pilot a helo for a total of 2 hours, he is totally stoked and can't wait till selection boards this fall. I told him if he gets his pick that is when the work actually begins, very tough competition for that pilot seat.

We had a jack russel just show up out here like that. Best little dog ever.

That is so cool. Does he know T. Toombs? His dad and I are very good friends and just sent his second son to the Academy, oldest is a senior.

You must be very proud of your young man. If you get an extra day during graduation, please stop by. We are about 1 1/2 hours south of Annapolis.

gatotom 07-21-2009 09:23 AM

I don't know if he does, my son is a senior also, 5th Co.

Are you going to Army/Navy game in dec. I will be there. CW we will be there staying in a house about a mile from town, I really want to sail the Bay, probably a yr after CW.

PM your phone number and address and I will try to stop by or you and your wife get up to Annapolis during CW, the parties are non stop for the week.

I was working at the shop when she approached. Completely submissive, covered in ticks and gaunt.

This happens every other year or so, from Dachshund puppies (two, who went to a great home) to beat up strays. We find them all a place in the sun.

Lily tugged at me, she has that certain something. I think her response during the bath we gave her to rid her of ticks sealed the deal. If happy can be personified, can be revealed in body language, there it was.

Never question a streak.

May she be happy...good job! So many cats & dogs needing just a kind word, a place to sleep & eat. I sure wish there were good homes for all.

Neuter your pets...and some of your relatives!

M.D. Holloway 07-21-2009 10:35 AM

Seahawk - Great 'barn find', looks more like a un-clipped boxer mix. Maybe with a little lab in her. Stray mixes are tops.

masraum 07-21-2009 11:23 AM

Fortunately, we aren't approached by strays often, and where we live, it'd be unlikely that they were strays anyway.

There was this one dog once. Adorable German Shepherd adolescent, smallish and still acted like a puppy. Someone a few houses down had it, and it'd get out pretty regularly. When it did, I always knew, because the idiot down the street would always be yelling stuff like "you stupid dog get back here". Once, we were working in the back yard hauling stuff through the house. I turned around and there it was standing behind me in the back yard looking up at me. It'd come through the house to find us in the back yard. Another time, I was standing in the drive way at my car. This time the young daughter, 11-13 yo, was coming down yelling "stupid dog". The dog ran right up to me and sat down looking at my like "please, please hide me, I'm a great dog, but I'm tethered to those idiots." It broke my heart. On another occasion, our front door was open (which is rare, I can't remember why). I was standing in the kitchen and turned around and the dog was standing there looking up at me.

I never saw them beat it or anything, but when I heard them calling it stupid I always thought that was pretty funny since he/she seemed to always out wit them.

rammstein 07-21-2009 11:33 AM

That color is brindle. Awesome dog. Dogs are one of the few things on earth that make me happy. Nice find!

syncroid 07-21-2009 11:44 AM

Congratulations Paul. Cool looking dog. Her Jowles don't look like pure pitbull. Definitely a mix of some sort. She looks like she has made herself right at home. We have a boxer/ pitbull mix. Best dog I have ever had.

Thank You God for finding Lily a loving home.
