Proof that NASCAR ruined AMA racing
Those of you that tuned in to the Speed broadcasts of the AMA races last weekend at Mid Ohio saw a couple of pretty good battles at the front. In the first race, things were close until a clueless lapper split the two leaders a couple laps from the end. The idiot in question was a guy named Johnny Rock Page, a self promoting d****bag who usually circulates last, or thereabouts, several seconds a lap off of the pace of the leaders. Why they let people that slow on the same track as the fast guys has always mystified me, as does the question of how he has the cojones to show up every race, knowing he is just a mobile chicane and nobody respects him.
Anyway, Youtube now has a short video of him getting dressed down by Al Ludington, the head of the AMA (DMG) scrutineering bunch. Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C42W0dyBC8 What is interesting is Al's wording of the grievous violation in question, namely that he "screwed up the show." The show? Is that the same thing we used to call a race? Hmmm.... sounds a little like NASCAR.... JR |

Why blame NASCAR?

"The Show" is a common term in all sports for a big, televised sporting event.

I gather you haven't followed events of the last year. The AMA sold the right to their road racing series to a company based in Daytona (Daytona Motorsports Group) that is backed by the same family that runs NASCAR and GrandAm.
Since then, DMG has alienated virtually all of the teams, sponsors, promotors and fans with their attempts to dumb the sport down to the point that anybody can run and win, regardless of talent or money. It's a very long story.... I'll go out on a limb and predict that unless something changes soon, there will be no manufacturer involvement in the sport after this year and what was once the best, most competitive national roadracing series in the world will be reduced to essentially a bunch of club racers. I have several friends who are AMA backmarkers. They are very fast club guys who enjoy being part of the big show for a weekend or two at the rounds they can afford to run. Yes it is "the show" and friends family get to be crew and part of the circus for a weekend.
JRP is only slow compared to the front of that grid. He has done this sort of thing before, putting himself in photo op position with the leaders, and this time Al had enough. JRP deserved to be ***** slapped for that move. Another buddy crew chiefed for his team a few years ago for a few rounds until a falling out. JRP does have a very enlarged sense of himself. PS. How about Okie Danny Eslick.. the kid can ride!

Well, there's a couple minutes wasted. Nevertheless, the race director, or whoever he is, is much less professional than Mr. "I held my line." I know this, ol' Al would have had to come up with something better if I was the rider.
In fact, since I've seen that scenario so many times (not f******* up the show, but officials berating competitors), that I'd probably have been banned forever after I got done with Little Al. For the most part, racing is all horseshc!t. I did it for 30 years and then tried a bit with the Porsche crowd. Biggest BS in the world. I'll side with the rider here not knowing much of his history. I'll tell you this, he's a hell of a lot cooler under the collar than I am. Think of a baseball game where the player gets thrown out by the ump for arguing. That was me whenever these race gods made a bad or even questionable call. And they seemed to make at least one every race. Hey, it's a race. People get knocked around. But, when I got intentionally punted from behind and there was no penalty, I went ballistic. I don't buy this stuff I see on TV, "I didn't mean to hit him. I just misjudged it." Bull. The weekend warriors monkey every move they see the pros do. Mix in some locals with the pros and you have a recipe for what you just saw on YouTube. Yes, BTDT. |

This is nothing new in AMA. One of the local Texas riders took out Miguel Duhamel several years ago
![]() This is pro racing with TV coverage so he should have gotten out of the way. Unfortunately there's not enough money to put enough really good riders on the grid, so the AMA allows paying pro's to fill the grid.

You can't screw up something that had a half dozen people as a fan base. Having NASCAR anywhere near it ought to make you giggle like a little school girl because it may live on.

I believe that's true. Minor league ball players that make the majors go to "the show".

I wouldn't even know where to start. Besides, I have better things to do than address someone as narrow-minded as you.
