				Home FFL?

Does anyone here have a FFL operated out of their home? I am hoping to hear some personal stories of success and woe. As I understand it, licensing is possible, if the applicant is willing to jump through many a hoop in order to meet zoning restrictions, posted business hours, etc.

Just an entertaining thought to me as I'd love to obtain a license sometime in the future.

			Bad idea.

Having your home licensed as an FFL premises allows the BATF to come into your home and search without a warrant. Better idea is to build a secondary structure, get a unique address for that structure, and license that premises.

Almost impossible these days. I've researched it a lot. It's impossible here now unless you have local zoning approval, a business plan and really plan to make a living at it. Doing it part time to save on transfer fees or to buy wholesale is not kosher anymore.

So we only 'need' one hot girl thread. Not hot girls, hot beer girls, chest thread or a legs and butt thread, etc. Yeah ok... LOL! Ya know there is a chance that he missed that other thread BTW. I know I did. Of course a search is always a good idea but why? This is OT after all....

I was looking at the thread from my iPhone. It does not show the OP, just the last to post. I thought Rick had posted, not Leland.

I don't think it's exactly like that. It certainly isn't that way for a commercial location. That said, the days of the $10 kitchen FFL's are long gone. Get an application and see the requirements. Ping me if I can be of any assistance. Jim

I have been both a "kitchen table" dealer and a storefront dealer, and yes, I have had the nice gentlemen from the ATF in my house. Leland... depending out your particular state and local laws, zoning, etc, it can still be done. There are plenty of hurdles to clear, and I have read that if you want to be a "by appointment only" dealer instead of having published hours, you will need to be a certified gunsmith (which is a good idea anyhow). Here is a FAQ with a lot of answers: http://www.fega.com/members/batf.html

ATF can make one un-announced compliance check/year. If they've been making warrantless searches on me for the last 25 years they're awfully subtle about it.

And cf, I'm assuming the inspectors were coming to your place of business. You can't blame them that it happened to be located in your house. Jim
