Angry The *OFFICIAL* DMV makes me mad thread

Today was no exception.
Why can't just be in and out and pleasant...Just once. WHY?!?

Today I was in 'there' and I dropped my wallet. My mistake.

About an hour later I realized I had lost it.
I went back and checked at the window where I had been 'served'.

"I lost my wallet".

them- "I wasn't working here".

"I know. Would check the lost and found please"?

-time passes-

them- "The lady that was working here is on lunch".

-time passes-
-very brief search is made-

them- "I couldn't find it".
------

I went outside and sat in my truck. Looked some more.
Ran the a/c and ate lunch.

I went back inside. ( other door. other side of the building )

"Hi. I lost my wallet. It's brown."

Different them- "Is this it"? ( holds up 'Dora the Explorer' hand bag )

I said: "Yes, that's it"!

He smiled and held up my real wallet.
I thanked him. At least he had a sense of humor.

Let's hear your insane and ANGER provoking experiences, please.

KT

Just imagine when our healthcare providers are held to the same standard of minimum competence.

I have not had a bad experience at the DMV office. Don't know why but that's the case.

Because you're not in California.

I agree about the California DMV. While I was there it was the biggest PITA to go there to do anything. It's always pretty much a 'take a day off work' experience because it takes so long.

However...

Here in Georgia I am not joking when I say that if I ever need to go in there I can be in and out within 20 minutes. The difference is staggering.

Here in WA state, I can do almost everything DMVish on the internet and by mail (snail and e).
I take it that this is not the case in CA.

Best,
Tom

Last time I was at the DMV, a guy in front of me had to call his mom to come fill out paperwork because he couldn't read.

Here in Illinois, you can't do anything online and the DMV refuses to accept incoming mail. Other than a vehicle sticker, the EVERYTHING has to be done in person at the DMV and THEY have to mail it to the central office for processing. And they delight at telling you that you have the wrong forms...or signatures...or documentation. Nothing can ever be accomplished in one trip. Oh, and they don't answer the phone, so it's not like you can call ahead and find out what you need to do. The website is useless if you don't already know what form you are looking for. It doesn't have a search function either. Not that it matters what it says anyway, as the DMVer may decide to follow their own procedure. Nope everything requires TWO trips to the DMV. And just because you've done something before doesn't mean that the person at the counter won't randomly change the procedure just for their own sick amusement.

My wife and I decided to register the 951 in my name only as I seem to recall forgetting to have her sign the title and it being a problem in the sale of some other vehicles. The lady at the DMV would NOT let me register it on my own. She insisted that because the old Porsche was in both of our names, the new one had to be in both of our names. She was making $h!t up. I think she thought she was somehow "protecting" my wife. Nope, she was just causing me a hassle for her own enjoyment.

I took my 69E title (bought in CA and drove across country) to the registry to get plates and when I got there, realized, quite unbelievably, that it had been neatly torn in half...the bottom half (or some portion of the bottom) was gone. But the top part where signatures were was still there. I thought the rough edge was a fold when I bought the car from one of those shady strip mall banks in CA and since signing areas were OK, I didn't really think about it.

Started talk with the Registry lady when I got to her window...weather, Red Sox, her grandkids...10 minutes later I was on my way. What a great day.

Join AAA (< $50/yr), they have DMV services at their offices.
I'm usually in and out within 20 min with no appt.

They can handle everything except a new car purchase or a VIN dispute.

When in CA I didn't have s problem with the DMV except for the wait. Once I got to the window, things were handled fine. Going to AAA was more efficient though. In Oregon my DMV experiences have been weirdly good. The guy behind the counter even remembered us on one of the later visits. I don't bother to use the AAA option here.

I rather enjoy going to my local DMV. Never wait more than a couple of minutes and there's a woman who works there who reminds me of the twin sister I never had.
I miss CA as much as I miss tv.

Last time I was in a California DMV I was helping an elderly friend renew his driving lisence. I must have found every single language for the driver's handbook EXCEPT english! I looked all over the place and couldn't find one. Someone behind the counter had to dig one up. After that, we had a 45 minute wait till he got to the window.

Contrast that with the Arizona motor vehicles which has really streamlined things in the last few years. You can do just about everything online so that far fewer people go down to an office. When I did have to walk in, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.

Ours is actually pretty good, but I'm going down there this morning. No doubt it will suck royally.

In Colorado went to the state DMV near my house and waited for an hour. Got to the end of the line and found out I was in the "wrong" county. "But this is a state office.." Then had to drive 45 minutes to my "own" county office and wait another hour..

Why isn't this clerk work done by independant contractors??

Mass was the worst state ever for this. people would bring lawn chairs to sit in. I got kicked out once. After waiting almost 4 hours, I get to the window and the girl says, "I'm going on break." I lost it. I told her to get her FAT ASS back in the chair and keep going until the line was gone. I can still remember chewing nuclear green gum like cud in her jowels.

The registry cop and started yelling at me. I explained that there is a huge line, with people waiting for hours while cows like this plodding their way slowly through the day.

It didn't matter. No good came of it.

Anyway, here in Florida I have stood in line once, and it was for less than 5 minutes. Everyone has been pleasant and I have had ZERO bad experiences.

It is just another reason, of many, that I HATE Mass. I would NEVER go back there.

I was actually shocked when I walked in and they asked if they could help me here. Shocked. I told them I was not used to polite and efficient DMV people. The lady laughed and said, "You must be from up north."
