So PETA wants fish to be called sea kittens?

"we don't like to eat cat because they're cute and ... fuzzy"

so are rabbits, and so is bambi

According to Marvin Harris ("Cows, Pigs, Wars & Witches") we eat things that make sense and not things that don't make sense. e.g. cats are useful - they kill mice & rats (which carry diseases, like bubonic plague) so we do not eat them.

Hindus do not eat cows - they used them as tractors
The Masai do not eat cows either - they used to just drink their blood - reason: the cows stay alive in the desert and can provide blood & milk for a long time - if they provide meat, they can only do that once.

We don't eat dogs - they help us hunt (but not in ancient China -- and guess what)

Harris's ideas are not really very testable (except in the comparisons shown above) but they do make sense.

Now, back to fish...

I had some tuna sashimi Sat. & am hungry for more fish today....
