When I was driving my 2001 Boxster S, I swapped FTDs with a guy in a Z06. I was on street tires, he was on Hoosiers. He only ran once without his Hoosiers. He was 5 seconds slower.

Got caught out in rain on race tires once. Very scary trip home. Not that there was much of a chance of that happening this past summer. I drive my cars everywhere including out-of-town trips and just don't ilke the idea of spending the extra monies for track tires, then wasting heat cycles on the street.

rain does suck. i rarely drive the porsche, except for thrills, anymore. i put snow tires on it while it hibernates in the winter, just in case i need it in an emergency.
