The only piont in having custom would be for more comp.
Are you running stock cams?

Geronimo '74 10-23-2011 11:44 PM

Compression is already fairly high at 10.3:1. This is a hot street engine, not a full blown race engine.
I'm running 964 cams, they're like the stock cams with a little extra, but not really wild.

That sounds like a nice combo, G.
You dont want something off its nut for the street.
Those cams have more lift and more duration.
Will make power a bit higher in the rev range.
Me like.

stick to stock.

besides, custom means you tell Wahl how to cut, he's a machinist, not an engine designer.
It's not like you can tell him , want this compression and i'm using that kind of head.
No, you have to tell him the shape of the piston, what kind of pockets, how high the dome should be..

Trust me... you do not want to go there if you don't know exactly what you are doing
And if you have to ask, you don't know what you're doing.
Get it wrong and best case your enginebuild won't run
worst case it does run till it grenades the first time you hit a certain rev at a certain temp.

Ever seen a valve shot out through the head and valve covers?? It's messy.

Geronimo '74 10-23-2011 11:57 PM

Together with the cams I have a hot wire air metering system with a cold air intake, SSI's and a 2 in 2 out M&K muffler.
All that will have to come together under the supervision of a custom chip.

Geronimo '74 10-23-2011 11:58 PM

Good thing I stayed with the custom pistons then. :)

vas930 10-23-2011 11:58 PM

The engine builder will check the piston to valve.
If it needs a bit more room, no big deal. :)

vas930 10-24-2011 12:00 AM

oohh, EFI, even better.

Geronimo '74 10-24-2011 12:23 AM

Yes, switching to carbs has been on the table but I didn't go there becuase expensive and not as user friendly as EFI.
But Carbs looks so sweet in the engine bay, I know...
