Yes. Horrible. It was a large almost 100 years old house with windows so badly isolated that whenever there was a bit of windy weather you could feel it blow right through. Glad I managed to sell it.

unless you are, electric bills should not be much affected by the weather/season So heating and AC are the only variables that "should" affect your total consumption. I'm around 3200 kwh a year, which is quite a bit for a single person in a house. But that does include warm water production.. Other then that, heating is done with a gas stove, which costs me about 35 euro a month.. and that was prior to insulating the roof. I will now evaluate the amount of gas i use, and if it dropped down enough, i won't install a Central heating, but might just install a decent heattile stove... don't know the right term, it's a basically a stove with stones that heat up, and then give off heat over a period of time, even when the fire is out. |

i've noticed something about google image search:
if you have safe search turned OFF, no matter what search phrase you use, eventually the search engine is going to pull up something truly lurid and nasty. try it for yourself.

Wow 1k euro will add up to real money fast. We have central gas heat and my utility company averages my bill over the year. I spend about 60 bucks a month for the gas bill and that is our hot water and cooking source.

I am not a huge fan of Deep Purple but I like a few of their songs. I don't recognise that one though.

Aw.. i feel your pain
previous rental place i was in, was like that too I'de be gunning the electrical heaters, the wood stove, and 2 portable oil heaters and i was still cold at night to the point where i went to the garage, and got car cover from the 911.... Imagine how cold i had to be , to take the 911's blanket!! (i only had the blanket, the 911 was long gone by then but, let's not get confused over that detail) Last edited by svandamme; 11-17-2011 at 12:10 PM.. |

My house was built in 1995. It needs some more attic insulation but everything else is in good shape. We have heated floors in the bathroom that are just wonderful. Even during the ice storm a couple of years ago when we lost electricity for most of a day the house stayed warm enough to be comfortable with just the gas fireplace.
Every year I think about getting a gas powered generator. Every year I put it off. What I want is the natural gas powered backup generator big enough to run the AC in the summer but that is about 8 grand installed and ready to go.
