No, I haven't. I'll visit someday, it's just not at the top of my list.

Then you know nothing of how Cali is, other than what you read and are fed. :) There are a lot of things to envy out here.

You're right, there are reasons I would never consider living there, but I honestly can't think of any reason not to visit. There are a lot of things to envy about the Southeast. Like I said, it's on my list, just not at the top. Hell, if nothing else, the Stone Brewery is almost enough reason!

Been to Cali lots. Love to visit I just don't think I can handle living in the heat.

slodave 02-10-2012 09:31 PM

The biggest being guns... Do you really need high-cap mags or fully auto weapons? Sure they are fun, but killing paper and bowling pins gets expensive. Shooting around here is not much fun either, as the closet ranges are indoors, but there are plenty of small towns and out of the way areas in California, where shooting off your back porch is just fine.

I bet another is taxes... What most don't realize, is that the paychecks are bigger too. Things equalize out here.

As for the latest. If you've never been here (L.A.), especially in the middle of summer you have never seen the crowds. Tossing footballs and Frisbees really is not the smartest thing to do. Not only can you hit a random person, you also can hit a random gang member and they get pissy over things like that and bad things happen. Also, the fact that the law was actually amended to allow tossing of things was the right thing to do - seeing how it used to be banned year-round.

Don't live in the desert areas. :) Plenty of places stay cool all year. Best yet, not nearly as much rain as you guys get. :p

Porsche-poor 02-10-2012 09:33 PM

So in other words no tossing anything? not even my drink?

slodave 02-10-2012 09:36 PM

Oh yeah, almost no humidity...

Porsche-poor 02-10-2012 09:37 PM

Hey I have 100% liquid sunshine right now. What is it going to be like in April in LA?

HHI944 02-10-2012 09:40 PM

Paychecks might be bigger in Cali, but property is cheap here. I pay 2k/month in rent.....for 3000sq ft, 2.5 car garage, 3rd row from the beach in a private community with deputized/armed guards at the entrance. That brings me to the crowded beach thing. The beaches are all technically public in SC, but there is no easy way to get to my beach without going through the plantation, which is restricted to residents and their guests. On a busy day during summer, there might be 2 dozen other people on the 2 miles stretch of beach I walk regularly.

With the weather this Winter? I have no idea. I'm still in shorts. I can let you know 10 days in advance. :D

HHI944 02-10-2012 09:42 PM

This winter has been awesome here......average temps in the 60's......just awesome.

I have been amazed by property prices around the country. Especially in the middle of nowhere, but then again, it's the middle of nowhere.

You won't find a place like that in L.A. County, but you can find bigger places in Ventura County, also right at the beach and way less crowded. The coastline here is huge! Most of it very valuable, but plenty of affordable places too.

That's another problem with never having been here, but making assumptions. A lot of the discussions on PP revolve around L.A. and Orange Counties. You (and others) are getting skewed impressions.

I.... Have become....

Comfortably numb.....

Lucky you did not live in the bush with me ,Rick.
I had plenty of 6ft and up to 8ft australian brown snakes in the yard.
The most deadly snake in the world.
I would watch them for hours.
They would wait for a frog and bang!
Awesome animal, I would never kill something for fun.
We lived a happy life, with great respect for each other.
Why kill for the sake of killing. :(

Noah930 02-10-2012 11:26 PM
