Okay ready for winter to be over with. We hit a balmy 25 today, and a very nice breeze from the north to make it simply freezing

nynor 01-04-2010 02:47 PM

i thought VA was supposed to be warm.... are you in the mountains, or something? i looked up scottsville on google maps. it looks like it has a cool little river going by. any fishing?

Rick V 01-04-2010 02:59 PM

Great fishing here. The James river is a nice slow paced river

nynor 01-04-2010 03:06 PM

why so cold?

what kind of fish?

Rick V 01-04-2010 03:15 PM

Lets see, cold, ummmmmmmmm whoever told you Va was warm in the winter has never been here. It isn't as bad as your winter but cold is cold.

i dreamt about fishing last night. those are always interesting dreams.

i love fishing for bass. good eating, too. i'd eat any of those fish.

Rick V 01-04-2010 03:33 PM

Dude if you would eat a Gar you are hard core.
The cat fish now that is another matter entirely, we have blue cats and channel cats. They are fun to catch. Make plans to be here sometime around October (If I am still here) and I'll take ya fishing on some private low grounds along the river. Just gotta watch out for the beavers.

slodave 01-04-2010 03:39 PM

Nice beaver!

ok, beaver jokes aside, why do you need to watch out for them? i have a .40sw pistol, if that will help....

yeah, i'd eat a gar. they aren't poisonous, are they?

Rick V 01-04-2010 04:36 PM

The beavers like to take your bait, and slide down the bank from behind ya. :)
Gar are gust Bones

nynor 01-04-2010 04:42 PM

heh! i nearly shot a damn muskrat for scaring away the trout. i had my pistol, too. my better angels intervened. next time, he's dead GD rat.

i'd still eat the gar. hell, i speared a tiny little reef fish in hawaii, maybe four inches. i ate the bastard.

i'd seriously consider eating the muskrat, as well. beaver would be pretty good, i bet, after a day on the smoker.

Rick V 01-04-2010 04:44 PM

:)
I forgot to mention we have eels too. I haven't gotten the stones to eat them but I have landed a few of them.

nynor 01-04-2010 04:49 PM

how big are the eels? i'd cook one and at least try it. hell, i've eaten raccoon, among other things.

Rick V 01-04-2010 04:57 PM

I have landed eels from 1 foot to about 3 feet. I usually get them off the line with my .45. at 3am I have better things to do with my time than worry about wrestling an eel, combine that with my fear of snakes............................yeah I just shoot them.

Rick V 01-04-2010 05:03 PM

slodave 01-04-2010 05:04 PM

So they are flying eels?

nynor 01-04-2010 05:05 PM

damn, that's a good sized eel. i've eaten snakes, too.

Well Dave, ya have seen a cowboy (or coby) shoot a tin can up into the air and just dance it so that it doesn't hit the ground. Same concept.
