Congrats on your flight into Camarillo today, Dave.
I rode my bike up the twisty, steep end of Highland Drive to go for a hike up Bishop Peak, with my camera this time. I got caught up in taking pictures and exploring and ended up doing the Felsman Loop trail that goes in a loop around the east face of the base of the peak. It goes back down the elevation that I had climbed on my bike and ends up where I started. Then I went up to the peak, so I did two trails and the whole mountain. My ankles are really sore. Never did find any caves or mineshafts. The ride down the twisty road is nice. But I don't have a gopro so the video did not come out worth posting. The hike was very pleasant, although it was quite warm on the uphill. Lots of nice wildflowers and some birds. I had just barely enough fluids with me. Should have brought at least a third water bottle. (The ones I brought were 20 fl.oz. each.) Came back and guzzled some nice cold water from the drinking fountain and then went up to my room for some more cold water out of the fridge. I left this morning at 9am, got back at 1:30pm. So the shadows were different when I went past things for the second time due to the sun changing angles. |

On second thought I will give the links instead:

Thanks, Max. I think I did make one kinda major mistake today, but I will never know. There are two fuel tanks in the plane, and in this low wing plane, you feed of one tank or the other, but not both at the same time. I swear that on the pre-flight checklist, that it said at one point to put the fuel selector on the lowest tank. For take off, you want to be on the fullest tank. There is a slight possibility that I flew there and back on the low tank. Really bad if the engine sputters on take off, kinda bad if landing, and not bad if mid flight, as you can switch tanks and if the engine does die, there's a good chance to get it restarted before the rough field landing.

Sid, there were people climbing this rock face. :)

No ropes, no belayers, and no rock bolts.

Drunk later, stupid during the climb. :)

How far up did you go? That is certainly not bouldering!
|
Not too far there. If you did a 180 and walked a bit, there should be another face, that one we did all they way.
|
The wall looked to be very high both on the left and right. But you could not see over the overhang.
I walked up the sides last time until I realized I did not have proper footwear and it was getting pretty steep. |

Wow! Not much has changed.

Glad I could bring back some good memories for you. :)

We had some good times out there. :)
|
You gonna be able to fly up here to SLO before I next June? :)
