Hmmm. Costco battery in the wife's car seems to have died. It only lasted 23 months, according to the sticker on it. Do I chalk it up to an anamoly (has something like a 100 month warranty) and swap for a 2nd one? Or switch to something else? It's times like this that I'm glad we've got multiple vehicles.
Just go swap it out with them. Most batteries are only good for 2-3 years these days..... And those are cheaper.

Have an Interstate battery in the Rover with the same issue. Could be the battery is 2 years old, or the Rover electrics acting up just because it's February.

The Interstate battery in my 964 is nearly 2 years old and so far, no sign of performance drop off. It cranks quickly even after leaving the car sit for a few weeks.

My experience is that batteries should last longer (5 years or so) unless they are subjected to harsh duty. My wife's car is a couple of years into its second battery, and the original battery lasted 6-7 years.

Well, disconnected the battery on the Rover last night and it is the same voltage this morning as it was last night. Guess I will have to drop it by my Rover guy to see why it is draining instead of charging the battery.

Jim Richards 02-27-2013 11:31 AM

When I first got my 964, it drained down the battery in less than a week unless it was on a trickle charger. It turned out that a failed transistor in the Climate Control Unit kept a small fan used for sampling the cabin air running. The current draw was at least 10x what it should've been. Before discovering this, I went away for a two weeks and the battery had augured. I got a new battery and got busy troubleshooting the problem. Now, it easily can go for weeks without killing the battery.

I was going to get new tires mounted on the 911 today, as it was scheduled to be a short day for me. But now I'm waiting for an emergency to come in. OK, fine. But I don't understand how it takes 2 hours for a person to get here when he's only 45 minutes away?

azzarule 02-27-2013 12:57 PM

That LA traffic, jeez

Noah930 02-27-2013 01:19 PM

Man, I coulda driven there, picked him up, and come back in the same amount of time.

Looks like drizzle for the day. :( I doubt I'll see anything on my rain gauge this arvo.

Afternoon Y'all
Only two more days till the weekend
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Outback Porsche 02-27-2013 02:23 PM

Only one drawback to it raining here at the moment. We've had three deaths this week involving our darker cousins. That means 5hitloads of the families have come to town for 'payback' and 'sorry business'. If it rains heavily, they can't get back to the communities.

They've brought in extra police to the town to combat the issue, but the public violence/D&D's and car thieving has already started. It'll only get worse if they can't leave town.

Rick V 02-27-2013 02:25 PM

That straight up sucks Jeff

Porsche-poor 02-27-2013 02:26 PM

geeze remind me to stay home this weekend.

Outback Porsche 02-27-2013 02:34 PM

An increase in break-ins will come next.

Funny, you get used to it all and it falls into the background noise mostly. It's just a part of living with that social (and anti-social) dynamic in your community. When it starts to really bother you, it's time to get out of town for a few weeks and have a holiday - just to remind you why you do choose to live out here.

Porsche-poor 02-27-2013 02:37 PM

at least here we have the option of detering folks from breaking and entering.......AR-15 makes for a nice alarm system.

Outback Porsche 02-27-2013 02:41 PM

I've got the 'two dog' brand of alarm. Much the same as the rest of the neighborhood. It's like the Mexican Wave of barking when all the alarms go off in succession. :D

I like the surperssive fire from the .45 to buy time to open the options cabinet maneuver.

Outback Porsche 02-27-2013 02:55 PM
