Time for bed. Night folks.

Coon is not an OK word... ;) Its more of a Louisiana word, where they even use it to describe people. If you go up to Baton Rouge the really backwoods swamp folks are referred to as coonasses, and are proud of it!
|
I thought "coon" was used derogatorily, like the N-word.
|
It can be that as well...
|
Sorry. I read tweeze's post:

Not OK as in Oklahoma. I thought she was claiming that using the term "coon" was okay. |
Coon as used in reference for raccoon is okay and we use that in these parts. I have lots of friends who go coon huntin'. It is also a racial slur that is used round here by the old folk.

First sign of spring in DC...homeless people sleeping in the parks.
Mornin' y'all (that "y'all" is for tweeze). SmileWavy |
It's one of my favorite cheeses, especially for toasties. :D

Hi Jeff. What's new?
|
G'day Jim, I'm having a much better start to this week than last week. I managed to offload a couple of days of a crappy job product testing and bs paperwork to another team, and found something more creative to do playing with some new stuff ;) (and my footy team won yesterday).
It's finally got cool enough (30C'ish) to play with the little mistress, dressed in red. We had a couple of outings last week - she's a fun little lady. My furkid Hugo came with me on one little jaunt last week. He looks super cool sitting in the passenger seat with his polarized shades on. I'll have to take a photo - he gets a few double takes and gives me the chuckles. :D How are you doing? Recovered from your work-cation? |
Yes. I'm as back to normal as I'll ever be. We've started preparations for our July work-cation. Can't wait!
|
Morning Jeff, Rick, Jim.
As for Coon, well I must say that words that we use at home and words that we use here can be a little different every now and again, one has to be careful. |
Just watching the news and Margaret Thatcher has passed away. Wow, I am getting old. I know who she is!!
|
Hi Azzy,
I just saw the new about Margaret Thatcher, too. RIP. |
Morning Azzy.
When I was over there a few years ago I got the impression I needed subtitles. Not very many people could understand what I was saying most of the time. I was often asked to slow down and it took a few days to get it sorted. I'm guessing it was more to do with how we string our words together to make one word out of many. :) At one point I was in a store in a mall, trying to buy a LA Lakers singlet for my son. It was going all pear shaped until I tried my best effort american accent. All of a sudden I was understandable? |
Even the typed discussions are a bit hit and miss with you Southern Hemisphere folks. Let's just say you've taken the English language to places it never thought it would go. :)
|
The funny thing was that the words hadn't changed, only the accent. :D
Hehe, we are a lazy lot when it comes to speech - you only have to listen to the car accident noises that come out of our PMs mouth whenever it's open, to figure that one out. |
Time to go find the fart sack. Nighty night all.
|
I was referring to Raccoons to hunt. Like the Jerry Clower.
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-AX9QoFhEhI?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> This is some funny stuff. One of the all time classics of Jerry. Some of you may think Jerry has a slight accent. It is very slight. ;) |
