Jim, you are gloating, darling. I'd love to head to socal for some housework and mild dry temperatures.

My mother in law decided to steal our kids until thursday so we had the night off. We went to dinner, a movie(which we have not done in years). This is the End was hilarious and I've still got 2 more kid free nights!

I know, I'm bad. :D

It's a lot of fun to be kid-free for a few days. Just like when you were dating, right? It's also like that when you become empty-nesters. :)

Empty nester... Sounds good but at the same time bittersweet. My boys are growing so fast I hug and kiss them every chance I get... Even though I can tell the time is coming soon where they are going to push me away and say, "mom! Dooooooooon't!" I have a while to go with my little one but all the same. Sigh. :)

It doesn't have to be bittersweet, tweeze. We talk to our son every week. We see him whenever we go to SoCal, and will eventually live about a 25 minute drive away from him when we finally retire out there. The relationship with him is different now than when he was living at home. Less parental, more like very close adult friends.

We talk about all the various things he has to deal with in life. We give him advice when he wants it, and try not to tell him how to do things/live his life. Parenting becomes much more subtle.

They may not like a lot of hugs at school or in front of their friends but at home alone don't let them have a choice. Hug em!

It actually sucks. When they are here and driving me nuts I want time away but, when they are gone, I miss them like crazy. It's a very long time since they've been gone this long and it was a surprise so I wasn't prepared.

It's going to kill me to leave them for 5 days when I go to Vegas in December.

I was like you when I started to travel for work... but in reality it was to balance not being home when I didn't have the boys and they were with their father. It is hard to stare at their toys and they aren't here. But, I have to admit I do think it has been good for them. I was in their face 24/7 before and I think it pushed them to have a little independence from me. Parenting is one of those weird things... there is a lot of ways to do it and most are neither wrong or right. You have to know your kid and you have to know yourself. I have to say since my ex has stopped drinking (not a drink since end of February. Yay!), we have worked very well with the boys to the point I think we have reached a point where I can say I feel really good as a parent.

And Glen, I do hug them. All the time! And the boys still cuddle with me. In fact, I always ask them to cuddle with me during the evenings and they snuggle up to me watching the iPad or reading. It's nice. I am going to milk it as long as they let me!

I have two you can have.

Porsche-poor 07-02-2013 08:31 AM

just kidding...........well maybe one.

tweezers74 07-02-2013 08:38 AM

And by the way, I don't want to work. My brain isn't into it. I just got done with a conference call and am supposed to be headed to the hospital. Still sitting here in my pajamas posting on this thread, sipping coffee. Yeah, not so much into work today...

Porsche-poor 07-02-2013 08:43 AM

I am at work but jsut not into it today either.

i thought once Joe started school he'd be done wanting to hang with mom but he(and evan too) is still all about snuggling with me. I'll take it as long as I can. it is nice to be able to not be bound to the house with babies anymore. I'm enjoying being able to leave um with hubs and go do my own thing some times.

I'm trying to figure out what to do tonight since I'll have 3 hour between when I leave work and when hubs gets home. I'm tempted to clean but i think that is a waste of this hard to come by alone time.

I agree. If you are gonna do it, do it 100%!

As Rick would say "I'm going to leave that one alone" I like living.

There is a point where you really should stop breast feeding.
