Guten Morgen Doc.

Schumi 03-25-2010 12:19 AM

Alright Sid, YGM.

Like I said in the email, I'm 50-50 on this job right now, so I'm only 50-50 on weather or not I'll be selling that project off this summer. But it's yours if that is the case and you want it, I won't let anyone else have it.

Also: I never check that email so don't chat me up there, I just use it when I have to send pics. Much easier than my uni email.

Morning guys

Geronimo '74 03-25-2010 01:29 AM

A fine morning to you sir!

Schumi 03-25-2010 01:34 AM

En Vogue Radio on Pandora is my soundtrack for the night. Including such artists as Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, TLC, Allure...

I'm back in 1993.

Schumi 03-25-2010 02:26 AM

In other news... my potential job in California is still in the air... so I'm considering my options for the coming summer.

Option A prime is of course dependent on receiving this job offer. I could really use around a 70K/year salary right now.

Option B is to continue with my research and teaching job, as I still have a guaranteed teaching position and work this summer, albeit not much- enough cash to pay my rent and eat, that's it. I'd start my doctorate's thesis in the fall probably, securing myself into debt for the next 4 years.

Option C is to postpone that and going backpacking on Guam for a month, possibly find a job there for a while. That's been my dream for a few years now and I finally have the time coming up to do it, so I may just go for it.

Option D is move back to Germany and explore graduate school in Europe. This would be the most costly option.

Why Guam?

Schumi 03-25-2010 03:08 AM

I've been fascinated with the pacific islands for a few years now. I had to take an advanced history course once, I didn't know what to take so I just took the one class that fit best in my schedule- it ended up being a graduate level course covering the history of Guam and other US territories in the Pacific. Professor was a fascinating woman who had lived there.

I also have a friend who I used to live with when he was in college here, a Japanese-American who grew up on Guam. We'd get drunk and tell stories- I grew up in Germany, he grew up on Guam. Always fascinated me.

All that plus the convenience of the English language along with the whole US territory / US money / US phone and mail etc. make it easier. I'd like to try living there a bit if I could find a job.

m21sniper 03-25-2010 03:14 AM

Sounds intriguing.

What are the gun laws like? (you know me...)

Schumi 03-25-2010 03:21 AM

I'm mildly certain that gun laws are exactly the way they are here in MO, as with most of the midwest, probably like PA-

There are the quick background checks for purchasing, no assault weapons, typical Brady Act stuff, but no Kalifornia craziness.

1/3rd of the island is military, so I'm sure there's some good ranges around.

RKDinOKC 03-25-2010 03:29 AM

You might want to check the cost of living in CA 70K doesn't sound like much for out there from the people I know that made the move. Depends on the area.

Schumi 03-25-2010 03:39 AM

Oh no doubt, I'd be living on the low end, studio apartment, no garage, ramen noodles.

I'm used to that. I get paid near nothing for instructing the few classes I teach here every semester and a little research money... I'm looking to get out of academia for a while. Unless I sink time into a PhD, there's no money for me to make here.
