Do you have Meprolights or Trijicons on the spoon?

I love using some of my vacation time to repair damage to my sprinkler system.

Yea, digging up sprinklers is FUN!

I have been real happy with my sprinkler system. I designed and installed it all 18 years ago. I know who to blame for problems.

I have 99 spray heads in 10 sections.

My yard is turning brown which is just the way I like it....DEAD!

GH85Carrera 07-01-2014 10:54 AM

I started to hear a ever increasing whine about the need to fertilize. The whine was only audible my wife was around for some reason.

So I fertilized on Sunday. Now I can more the yard even MORE often.

Our grass gets mowed every other week, whether it needs it or not. I'm fine with that since I don't have to do it! :D

Well gee I see it is only going to be 109 there today. You likely need to get out there and mow!

After my trip through Needles, CA I punched that into my weather app. It is 106 there on the way to 113 today.

It is only 81 here right now.

the one thing I never do. I hate grass.

Glen, if I did now it myself, I'd use a reel mower and do it in he middle of the damn night when it's cool out!

Aw come on. You have hung over a interstate holding onto a sign in triple digit heat. Mowing in the afternoon should be a piece of cake.

Do you crack the whip and make Tweeze mow the yard? ;)

The only part of mowing that is worthwhile is cracking open a cold beer and looking at the fresh mowed lawn. Instant gratification for hard work, and some exercise that I needed.

Porsche-poor 07-01-2014 11:52 AM

ok about two more hours till I run off to an interview. total waste of time but I figure I had better go..

flipper35 07-01-2014 12:12 PM

Since I don't drink I don't even get that gratification. All I see is a few days reprieve before having to mow again.

Sid, when I lived in El Centro we had an electric mower and I mowed about 9:00pm. Then all I had was 1/4th of the acre lot to mow. The rest was alkali soil and a date palm.

GH85Carrera 07-01-2014 12:20 PM

I have enough lights in my back yard to finish up mowing at night. I can knock out the front yard at dusk and finish up at night. Just having the sun set helps a TON when it is HOT.

tweezers74 07-01-2014 12:28 PM

I used to mow the lawn. But I have been known to run over sprinkler heads. :)

My front lawn and back lawn are putting greens. Would take half an hour tops to mow both lawns. I would jump in the pool, mow the front lawn in my bathing suit (not hot at all when sopping wet), jump in the pool again, and then mow the back lawn. Wasn't bad at all.

But I hate weeding and trimming shrubs. The yard guys do everything so inexpensively, why do it myself?

GH85Carrera 07-01-2014 12:38 PM

My biggest challenge is the 1/4 mile of edging I have. There is a sidewalk up against the house on all 4 sides. I have a sidewalk out near the front of the lawn for neighborhood pedestrians, and the front curb. Then the weed eating or trimming up against the flowerbeds and the koi pond. I spend as much time trimming and edging as I do mowing.

I did eliminate three areas of mowing by making them flower beds. That is the one part Mrs Carrera takes care of, flowers. The koi pond is pretty low maintenance.

I paid for my yard to be mowed when I had my hip replaced. My yard "boy" was a 78 year old neighborhood guy that liked to keep active. He used my equipment and he just walked over to my house from his.

flipper35 07-01-2014 12:53 PM

Emily does all the trimming for me. I do give her an allowance for that so she has some spending money that she has earned.

GH85Carrera 07-01-2014 01:17 PM

My wife did trim the yard the first few years we were married. That stopped right after we moved into this house. She does plant the flowers. She points at a spot for me to dig a hole and she plants it in the ground. I have dug more holes in the dirt since getting married than I ever did when single.

We have 5 Koi. I think they are gay fish. Most of the folks we know with koi ponds have babies. We have not had one fish puppy. Lots of tadpoles and little toads. A few skinks and some tiny little snakes.

At least every other trip here to SoCal, I end up repairing some part(s) of the sprinkler system. While working on it earlier today, my neighbor came by to chat and he confirmed what's now obvious to me, that the system has been extensively cobbled together and patched up over the years by the previous owner. I had a broken plastic pipe nipple (no lube!) and broken thin-wall pipe at one sprinkler head. I found another sprinkler head buried about 3-4 inches underground, but still attached. I discovered that after I noticed a wet spot where it seemed like there was a big gap between sprinkler heads.

Tonight is Taco Tuesday! $0.99 tacos! Mmmmmmm. :)
