I become a checkbook mechanic on some things. Transmission work is more than I want to deal with. Body work is another. I am dropping the Elky off next week to get the bushings replaced in the doors. The doors are about 5 feet long and weigh a ton. The bushings last about 8 or 9 years before they wear out so much the doors droop. The passenger door does not get as much wear so it just squeaks like crazy.

Richard, you get a free lunch on Monday to pick me up from Hammer & Dolly.

The transmission is one of those things I won't touch either. I did most of the work on the Cobra motor. I didn't do any of the work on the crankshaft. The new cars have too many electronics to deal with. I can do and have done some body work, but we have a friend of the family with a state of the art paint booth and has done body work for as long as I can remember so I let him do anything we need done.

Dave, are you going to expand your line once (if) you get caught up?

RKDinOKC 09-05-2014 09:06 AM

Oh boy! A free Lunch, and on my burpday!

Porsche-poor 09-05-2014 09:40 AM

Free is always good!

RKDinOKC 09-05-2014 10:17 AM

Got the file, off to upgrade the ECU on the Cayenne.

RKDinOKC 09-05-2014 10:49 AM

Done, now to go drive around and see if it made a difference.

Almost time to head home for the weekend.

The Autocross is (use deep announcer voice) this Sunday Sunday Sunday!

The weather looks dry and only in the mid 80s for the afternoon. We might get out of there before it even get to 80.

Butt Dyno Report...

The reason I did the ECU tune is when first starting out or adding gas after a turn the first 1/4 inch of travel seems to have no effect then because you keep pushing it hits hard. Very annoying when pulling out into traffic from a stop sign. My BMW X3 also did this, BMW told me it was a combination of Throttle by wire and the hill holding feature, and could not be fixed.

Well for the most part it is much smoother. Now it only hesitates on rare occasions. Feels much safer (without the lag) pulling out into traffic now. And unless I floor it hard enough to bring on a downshift it has lost the hesitation coming out of a corner.

Not only is adding throttle smoother, partial throttle is much zippier. While accelerating less than half throttle up to the speed limit after a light, I noticed it felt zippier. About that time I heard a roar beside me. A Mustang GT was really piling on the power and shifting hard to keep up.

At full throttle before it kind of evened off at 4000 rpm the shifted by 5000. Now it doesn't feel like the acceleration slows down until it shifts at RED LINE.

The ECU upgrade definitely made the old Cayenne drive more like a Porsche and less like an SUV.

I am 5'11" and Jeff was inches taller than me. Probably 6'2"-6'3".

RKD, that was quick. Hope it helps.

Off to go see a movie with mom. The Identical I think is the name.

meh. I can lift that with one hand..

Last day of work-cation frittered away on sailing and socializing...not that I'm complaining. :D. I sure do love it out here. I can't wait until we make it our permanent address.

porsche4life 09-05-2014 03:14 PM

I want to go sailing with you Jim! If we are all in CA at the same time we will split the cost of boat rental with you!

Jim Richards 09-05-2014 03:26 PM

I think that would be a lot of fun, Sid. We're back out here in Nov. and Feb., but I'm not sure if the weather will be sailing-friendly. But, we might get lucky. We'll probably have 3-4 additional trips in 2015. In 2016, we'll call this place home.

I can lift half that.....
I don't dead much though. My event of choice is farmers walk. ... I'm an absolute beast on the walk. I'm working 300lbs for 35yds on every circuit. ... with no grip straps. For a one lap max with straps, I can clear 500

GH85Carrera 09-05-2014 05:24 PM

Stijn!!

My lift can raise 4000 lbs with ease with just my thumb and a little electricity.

HHI944 09-05-2014 05:38 PM

I have this 'trick' I discovered when someone pissed me off in a Walmart parking lot. If I step on the lower frame of a shopping cart, I can rip it apart.....needless to say, the jerk off that was pissing me off got in his car and hauled a55

slodave 09-05-2014 11:34 PM

Three more shift knobs sold today and I haven't even delivered the 10 to replace the 10 that were sold a couple days ago. My order for 30 turned into 40. :D

Rick V 09-06-2014 05:32 AM

Morning Y'all.
I am so glad to be back home for a while.
My tally for the last three weeks, was 2,000 miles of windshield time, five new stripes on the sleeve, and I only actually threatened seven people on the road. The beauty of driving a company car is I really don't give a crap about it and I will hit you for certain violations, like not looking before cutting me off.

Jim Richards 09-06-2014 06:47 AM

Morning, Rick. We're flying back to DC in a few hours. I hope the weather is nice for the rest of the weekend. That'll help my morale after being out west for a week.
