That is cheap. I would get in so much trouble with that. I do live in a college area.
|
That's what it's for isn't it?
Found goggles to wear and see what the drone camera sees, but haven't found one with a zoom lens yet. |
That would actually be good at the range, better than a spotting scope

Welcome to Monday everyone.
Richard those UAVs are amazing. No doubt the FAA will make commercial use of them legal fairly soon. We heard a funny story about one. Some dude drove into town from out of state with his UAV (or drone) and was doing what a lot of folks are doing and just ignoring the laws and he was flying aerials for a local builder. A good gust of wind came up and he lost control of the drone and if flew away and he lost it. He looked for a while but could not find it. He then had to hire a local pilot and airplane to take him up and fly the job in the legal manner. So he drove into town, lost the UAV and the camera that was on it and had to hire a airplane & pilot to complete the job. Yea he made a lot of money. We heard the story from the pilot he had to hire. Well it was funny to us, not so much for the owner of the drone. We charge $250 to fly a site like that anywhere in the metro area and we are 100% legal and have insurance to boot. |
The drones are legal up to 400 ft high and not within 5 miles of an airport. AND you cannot charge for the flying or video.
Found a drone called the TurboAce Matrix. Instead of a GoPro I could mount my Panasonic camera with zoom on it's gimbal! It's on sale for $2,500. I could use wi-fi to control the Panasonic camera for ZOOM! It also folds up and fits in a neat case. It's considered a step up from the $1000 ones with more power, higher payload, and automated repeatable navigation and camera control from a ground based pc. http://www.turboace.com/images/matrix-g_1.jpg http://www.turboace.com/images/carryCase2.jpg |
Will probably just get a $90 Blade Nano QX, a palm sized quad copter I can fly around in the living room and annoy the cat.
http://www.bladehelis.com/Content/Pr.../BLH7600-4.jpg Or maybe the $50 Pico http://www.bladehelis.com/Content/Pr...llery/gal1.jpg The next two years these cheap drones are going to explode with features and drop in cost. Anything available today will basically be obsolete. |

The guy I mentioned was charging for his services. Shooting photos and videos for fun is cool and looks neat but that will get boring real fast. |
Yep, definately not worth over $1000 bucks for me.
Heck, I'm thinkin the $50 one might get boring too fast as I hzve killed all my other helicopters crashing into stuff. Well except for the one the dog chewed and the one the cat broke batting it around the living room. |
The typical Oklahoma winds would play havoc with most of the the cheap ones outdoors.
No doubt much like computers and digital cameras, they will get much cheaper and much better fast. They are coming to our world and they are as unstoppable as digital photography. Digital photography pretty much killed King Kodak in just a few years just like buggy whip manufacturers. I bet you can still buy a nice buggy whip today but there is nobody making a living making only buggy whips. |
I flew my outdoor heli so much the battery holder broke off from changing batteries so often. Just haven't gotten around to getting the parts to fix it yet.
The one the dog chewed is history. The one the cat batted around will take soldering a new servo on the mother board, or replacing the motherboard. I can't solder that tiny any more. Have another one that the frame is worn out and won't keep the motor and gears aligned, motor keeps slipping. Glue don't work either. Have one that I have not flow. It is collective pitch. Collective pitch is well outside my skill level. Maybe I need to go to the hobby shop for lunch today. Bet that will cost me some monies. |
I'm thankful that the closest hobby shop is over an hour away...
I can't wait to start bashing the new truck though! |
Takes about 20 minutes to get to the Hobby Shop. They are closed on Mondays by the way.

Rick, those loads will shoot flatter, but if you are going really long distances they will drop to subsonic speeds at a shorter distance than the heavier round with a higher ballistic coefficient.
Spent Saturday doing 18# of sausage and 3# of jerky. I do like the Lansky kit for keeping knives sharp. There is nothing worse than a dull knife. Sunday was a school concert and a Christmas party at a friends house. Joe, paper targets or what on the top of that truck? Dad and his brothers used to put a cardboard target inside a tire and roll it down a hill for practice. |
Back when I first moved to Oklahoma i drove past a hobby shop on my way to and from work everyday. I have spent many hours looking around in hobby shops and this one was about 1/2 of a shopping center so I figured they would have a great selection on model airplanes. I walked in and was confused because it was all cloth and decorations for a houses and crap like that. I finally found one little section with some model airplane stuff and it was all junk for kids. I figured that place would be out of business in short order. I was a little off in my assessment because it was the first store that grew a bit more. It soon swallowed that entire shopping center and ran out of room so it started building the empire that is now Hobby Lobby. I should have bought stock in them back then.
They have over 600 stores and have sales of over 3.3 Billion. They are ranked as the #138th of largest private companies. |
Glen, they do have some great hobby stuff, just not in our types of hobby. The local store here has a pretty good selection of models and paints and Estes rockets. Not much R/C stuff at all. Oh, they have several slot tracks that are nice. Lots of kids experiment stuff as well.
We have a hobby shop that is also a shoe repair place. They have a good selection of stuff. Joe, when you move up, some of those drones can have waypoints set via GPS and will fly the route automatically. Just remember to keep it low unless you are practicing AA. |

You guys are reminding me that I need to go pick up a new gear for my truck. I stripped it out bashing around in the rain.
