If those were a little yellower they would look like Habanero

Have had the water heater in VAC mode since 5am. The thermostat has Off, Pilot, VAC, Low Heat, Hot, A, B, C, Very hot. Vac is 55°F, Hot is 120°F, and Very Hot is 160°F. Check kitchen and bathroom faucets and hot side warmed up fairly normal, just didn't have to turn on the cold side to keep from getting too hot while washing my hands. Slowly turned the thermostat up as I passed Hot, or 120°F the burners lit. So after 6 hours it cooled from 130°F to 120°F. Turned it on up to my usual A setting, 130°F. Will go check every 5 minutes and see hold long before it reaches 130°F and turns the burners off.
Interesting less than 15 minutes and it was up to temp. Had to turn it up to B or 140 before the burners lit again. Back to A/130 and they went off. What do you do on your day off? |
Happy Saturday, y'all. And a big congrats to Grampa Pete! SmileWavy

Happy Satur....er Friday?
Wifey ordered new glasses for us from an online store. Cheap enough but, as I pointed out several times, she spent $300 last year on new ones from a chain eye place that she now doesn't like to wear. I wear contacts and only wear my glasses in the evening. Both of the kids had bloody noses during the night or so my wife tells me. I didn't hear anything. :D |
Was it a pillow fight?
|
Don't think it was a pillow fight. The weather must have something to do with it although it typically is the dry winter air not the summer humidity. The daughter of a friend was at the 4H fair showing her rabbit and just before she went "onstage" she had a bloody nose.

Weird. Are you sure its not aliens. Maybe if they wore foil hats?

This gas usage thing has me kind of flummoxed. Guess I am going to have to learn to read my meter and start writing numbers down and turning things off and on. Just not making sense to me the water heater holding heat so well, and recovering so quickly but using so much gas.
It's not that I can't afford it. I'm just curious. |
Is your water heater in the garage? Mine is. We have it set fairly low, just above vacation mode.
With just the two of us there most of the time we have never run out of hot water. In the middle of summer the "cold" water coming into the house is pretty warm. In the dead of winter the cold water can be down to 40 degrees. That takes a lot more gas to heat up. Between the aquarium inside, the Koi pond in the back yard, the Tivo DVR and security system DVR always on and running we never can get the electric bill very low. We have gas five burner stove top and gas oven but those only get turned on about twice per year. The water heater is gas but it does not have a pilot light that is on all the time. It has an electric sparker system so no gas usage except when it fires up. The furnace has no pilot light either. |
Got mine new in 2010 and 2012 and both have pilot lights.
Just kind of irks me for the bill to say my usage is within $1 of my neighborhood average, when I am single and don't use near as much of anything! Do think I may have hit on something turning off the water heater at night. Especially if it recovers so quickly. Going to manually set to VAC every day and see if the next bill is much less. Got the toaster oven cause I like stuff warmed in the oven and not a microwave. Oven is 3500 watts and toast is only 1500 for same heating. Microwave would be even cheaper because it is so much faster. |

Aliens for sure. I think the in thing these days is a steel colander.
Happy *day. |
I'll explain to my wife the Pelican guys said to put colanders on the kids at night. I'm sure she'll understand.
Our water heater and furnace are in the garage. The WH is about 4 years old and I have it set at about 130 degrees. For perspective, vending machine coffee must be at 120 or better per most health codes. |
Only if you believe in the Flying Spagetti Monster!

Burpppppp.
We decided to go to a restaurant we have not been to in over a year. It is great Italian food. The building was a BBQ place for many years. It was originally built as a gambling and prostitution place back in the 60s. It was a place owned by a mobster. They would still get raided on occasion. The waiter was telling us about his uncle that worked there as a dish washer. He said the police came rushing in and the dishwasher figured the police were looking for him so he dove down the laundry chute and came out in the count room. He said he was astonished that there was that much cash and chips around. He knew the police were coming to seize it all so he stuffed all he could into his pockets and took off running into the woods. The building still has many little tiny rooms that originally was for a private game or party. Downstairs was the rooms for the hookers. |
Sounds like a cool place.
Wife said no to the kids wearing colanders at night. ;) |
