We have the same electric company of course. There is only one in this part of Oklahoma. I have my bill averaged and on auto-pay. They look at the last 12 months, divide by 12 and figure I will use about the same this year. They have 20 years of records to look at. My bill is the same all year long. I still have them mail me a paper bill just to see the big DO NOT PAY THIS BILL under the monthly total. I remember many times in the old broke days wondering how I was going to pay that bill. Something in me just loves seeing the bill and knowing I don't have to write a check. I still have to pay it but it does not hurt as much to have the account drafted.
We really could use more insulation up in the attic. Before we can blow in a bunch of insulation I really need to replace all the pot lights in the ceiling to be rated direct contact with insulation. That means either getting a bucket like thing to cover the old lights or replace them. We are replacing all the bulbs with LEDs as the burn out. Those suckers are expensive to buy but worth it from everything I read. |
I've had CFL or florescent bulbs burn out pretty much like our old incandescent bulbs did before modren era of incandescent bulb only lasting a couple of months. Have not had an LED bulb go out yet so far.
CFL bulbs came in the new dusk to daylight fixtures I put up for my front porch and two outside garage sconces. They have been burning every day dusk to dawn for two years. They are a funky bulb though. When it comes time to replace the bulbs it will be the same cost to just get new fixtures with the new bulbs already in them. Looked at saving some bucks by having those outside lights come on a dusk but turn off from like 1am to dawn. Found that any sort of timer would cost more than the energy for 2 years of running those lights from 1am to dawn. |
The only clf ones that last in my house are the ones out front. They come on at dusk and stay on all night. CFL bulbs do not like to go on and off like room lights.

When I started having trouble with my vision I kept the lights pretty much off. Only very minimal. It helped because my left eye was darker than my right eye with all the blood in it. Being darker the floaters etc were also less bothersome. Now that most all the blood is gone from my left eye (still have cadillac) I need more light than is available just to see. Lighting was never an issue before this eye thing started.

The presenter would show how to do something, then someone would say "When I do it this way it doesn't always work" and the presenter would say they are doing it wrong and they need to do it this way. Then, after being shown the correct way they would state, "But when I do it the other way it doesn't work". Or, The presenter would show how to do something and someone would ask how to do what the presenter just showed how to do so she would have to do it again. The whole meeting was like an Abbot and Costello routine and that is a normal meeting any more. I hate people. Richard, it took 6.5 years for our geothermal heat pump to pay for itself. It heats our water tank summer and winter. We use Cree LED or Sylvania LED lights for a lot of things also. Our computers kill us on the electric bill though. |
CLF bulbs are like tires. They may look the same, but there are huge differences in quality. We have had one in the bathroom last just a few months. It did not get much use. Just a POS bulb.
I am not sad to see the CFL bulbs go away. They use mercury so they are bad for the environment. Breaking one is a hazmat cleanup if you go by the books. LEDs are a way better technology that took a long time to get to market. I remember as a kid I built a Heathkit project that was nothing but a box that blinked several different LEDs in random order. I brought it to school to show my friends. Now days they would call the bomb squad and evacuate the entire school and neighborhood. |
Yeah my 3 servers each burn from 11 to 15 watts all day and all night. That doesn't include the external hard drives. At least they don't have monitors. My cable box burns 15 watts on or off. Haven't plugged in my watt monitor to see watt my routers and modem burns. Apple TV is 5 and 15. Big TV is 2 as is my stereo when asleep.

Overall, electricity is cheap. At least around here.
We have the Koi pond with a pump that runs 24/7 and the 75 gallon fresh water fish tank in the house always running. The AC system sucks some juice as well as the lights, TVs, stereos and gizmos. I have the watt meter and figured my garage AC costs me about $7 to run all day. It only runs if I am out there working. Zero doubt I think it is worth it. To come in after a day of tinkering and not be exhausted from heat is worth every penny. |
I'm watching the Employee Meeting. The guy being recognized is for 50 years. They had to give a complete history of the company.

Oh boy, been smoking country style boneless Pork ribs since noon. They are smelling up the place! And the smoker is outside!

I am gonna bet ALL pork rectums are boneless. Just a gut feeling.

There's an old saying, "it's all pork around a pig's ass". Didn't realize that was inclusive. |
|
These are boneless rib ends, not rectums. Not that I don't like a good pork butt.
The odor I am experiencing is mainly the rub and the Cherry wood I am smoking it with. The rub is called "Butt Rub" though. |
|
Was I supposed to put butter on it. I've been using BBQ sauce.
|
I figured the "butt rub" was butter-based ;)

My grandfather worked for a living at Armor and Co. Cutting up dead animals. They were already dead by the time he put knife to meat. He had a million stories about the place. He worked there from the time he was 17 to the time they closed the plant down about 40 years later.
Anyway he talked about pigs. He said the old adage, everything was used except the squeal was 100% true. He said even the contents of the guts were put right into a compost pile and they sold the compost when it was ready. He said he never understood people eating pig snout until the depths of the depression. When you are HUNGRY any food is wonderful and tasty. He would not eat hot dogs when we were kids. He knew that they were not like the old days, but he just could not bring himself to eat them. I have his favorite knife. He took it to work everyday. It is a great butcher knife. |
Well, it was tasty and delicious. The outside was black, thought I had burned it. but no, just black not crusty or burnt tasting at all. There was about a 1/8 inch pinkish ring between the outside and the meat. The meat was so tender when you put pressure on it to get a slice with a fork it just fell apart instead of slicing.
First time I've tried smoking boneless country style pork ribs. Will have to do it again, got half the package of ribs left. For $6 there is enough for two big meals or about 6 pork sammuches. Wonder if I can find some thick cut pork chops and try smokin that! |
