Morning all. Dang I was 10 minutes late getting into work. Mrs. Carrera insisted we get up early and wash her car. Got thet done before the broiler was turned on. It was still in the 70s and in the shade so not too bad.

Got cleaned up and got to work 10 minutes late. I guess it is hard to doc my paycheck since I don't get one yet. Even worse we are buying a Canon 5D and a 70 to 200 L glass lens. Ack, more money going out. Oh well its just money. Gotta spend money to make money.

Porsche-poor 07-25-2017 07:05 AM

make yourself a sign that says "your late" and post it on the wall. Tell you what I was 5 min early to work so I'll help you even it out.

Morning all.

RKDinOKC 07-25-2017 07:15 AM

Good Morning...

If your office has a Grammar Nazi the sign better read "You're Late" or you are looking for even more hassle from "The Man."

GH85Carrera 07-25-2017 07:41 AM

The Camera we were drooling on the most is the new Canon 5DS R

https://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-Low-Pass-Filter-Cancellation/dp/B00T3ERT5S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500993523&sr=8-1&keywords=5DS+R

Just like car makers they have to have a S version and then tag a R on it to boot. And raise the price. It is just a little pricey for us right now. We settled for a little cheaper version of the 5D

RKDinOKC 07-25-2017 07:50 AM

So is the S faster and the R all stripped down to save weight?

flipper35 07-25-2017 08:48 AM

Mornin' all.

Pete, was that just down the road from us? You must be getting all the rain that passed through here a while back. I wonder if Wayne washed away?

So, does the R version use Plexiglass to save weight in the lenses?

David, great pic!

GH85Carrera 07-25-2017 08:55 AM

Yea, I thought it was funny they used S and R like cars.

The R version is the one with a low pass filter or some jargon. It helps make the image sharper, but it can show a moire pattern in some images. The dream rig of that camera, and the 70-200 lens was just under 6 grand and that is just a bit steep right now.

very true I need more caffeine!!!!!

flipper35 07-25-2017 09:10 AM

You could add another lens for $3k to $5k while you are at it.

My wife's Rebel came with the 75-300mm lens, but I am sure it wasn't one of the high end ones. Her 18-55mm has autostabilization. I wish the long lens did.

flipper35 07-25-2017 09:11 AM

David, aren't you in the land of caffeine?

Porsche-poor 07-25-2017 09:13 AM

yep but I don't drink coffee.

flipper35 07-25-2017 09:21 AM

Dew?

Porsche-poor 07-25-2017 09:24 AM

Used to be coke but the doc's took that so now its iced tea no sugar.

flipper35 07-25-2017 10:13 AM

That is my lunch drink. I don't like sweet tea unless it is hot and from somewhere in Asia.

RKDinOKC 07-25-2017 10:44 AM

That's Sweetie, they just don't pronounce it right.

We bought the system used off of Craigslist. My partner just picked it up. It has the $2000 70-200 F2.8 L glass that we really required. It also has:

Speedlite 580EX II flash
EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS II USM lens that I mentioned
EF 17-40mm 1:4 L USM lens
EF 50mm 1:1.8 II lens

The 50mm lens is just going to be a paperweight most likely. All of it is in great like new condition.

RKDinOKC 07-25-2017 10:53 AM

And Cards, batteries, etc...For the number of photos I take that would be about $30 a pic.

GH85Carrera 07-25-2017 11:03 AM

We have a job to fly right now. A few dozen photos of the overall site, and one "money shot" that will get printed as 40x60s, 30x40s and lots of smaller sizes. It may well pay for the purchase.

The only photos I have shot in years has been on my iPhone. I don't even take my digital camera on vacations anymore.

Porsche-poor 07-25-2017 11:11 AM

so what is the plan? use a sling shot and launch Glen over the site snapping away and hope you get the shot before you land?

GH85Carrera 07-25-2017 11:26 AM

Nope, we can rent an airplane (Cessna 152, 172 or 182) for cheap. At the Guthrie airport we can rent one for $99 per hour wet. So from engine start to engine off, is $1.65 per minute. No fuel, maintenance hangar fees just get in and go. My partner is checked out at three different places to rent an airplane.

In the good ol days we were in the air 30 to 50 hours per week. That is when we will buy an airplane, when we can get back to that level.
