Oh great, the generator didn't come on. Think you are supposed to test that stuff aren't you?

Porsche-poor 02-19-2019 11:51 AM

I'm lost. Are you saying the bot caused the power loss?

We have a natural gas generator on our data center and if it is below 0* it won't start, even thought it has a heater. We have a big generator on the building attached but it comes from another feed from a different block. The city is hesitant to let us pull a feed from that one.

Is the bot called Stuxnet?

Porsche-poor 02-19-2019 02:10 PM

who has 20 million sitting around?

The monitor is called logic monitor.
Don't know anything about the generators except the first time our power went down they didn't fire up AND the battery backups only lasted for 10 minutes. And they had to go manually restart several routers.

Built a 4th Dimension database for a local company PSI, Power Systems International. They sold and handled all the logistics of transporting and installng all kinds of new and used generators. The really huge onse were coal powered. That was very interesting. The database tracked all the different new and used generators available and the requests. And produced their quots as well. They only needed to sell one generator a year to pay all their salaries.

The coolest I ever saw was at the American Airlines logistics center. The entire building was powered by 2 big generators that ran off the power grid using big eletric motors. When anything happened to the power coming in they immediately switched over the what looked to me like big diesel engines. There was a huge flywheel on each generator so the power would change as it switched. They text it every day. I got to watch one day and it was very startling to stand there and see and hear those big motors go from stone cold to running at 3000 rpm in like one second. They were really serious about their power. Oh, and there were two incase something happened to one of them.

Obviously not priceless, he is asking $20 million. Too bad I only have $18 million laying around. :)

Porsche-poor 02-19-2019 03:19 PM

I'd give him a couple grand for the Daytona I have no use for a boat.

RKDinOKC 02-19-2019 03:20 PM

Welp, don't have the brighly colored sports coats so not interested in either.

I presume the Daytona is the fake one made from a Corvette. Can’t care less about either one. I rode in a real Daytona. Hot as hell. The windows only roll Dow a little, and it has a 12 cylinder heater inches away. It was hot as hell but we looked cool.

Happy hump day all.

The sun is back, and the high is going to be in the mid to high 40s today. The snow was plenty, .06 inch of rain, a few pellets of sleet, enough snow to make the grass almost white, and the roads were just wet. I told the bosses wife I will take care of shoveling the snow off of the sidewalks and our driveway. By the time she is up the few patches of snow in the cracks of the driveway will be melted so the shovel will stay in the storage building.

That would be the one but with a vet you can have the local shop work on it and not pay Ferrari prices.

The project I am working on has 3,172 images of a little city on the edge of a big lake. Of course lots of docks and large bay. Water is a pretty much impossible to map. It is just a bunch of moving waves, and featureless. It ends up having funny stripes and harsh transitions. To make the client happy, we (I) have to go in with Photoshop and just blend the funny spots in the water away. There is simply nothing to see, it is just water. Just tedious work. The pain part is the image that the mapping program produced from the 3172 images is a single 10 gigabyte tif file. Of course for the reasons only Adobe can think up, Photoshop simply will not save a 10 gig tiff file. It is happy to open it and let me edit it, but I am sure I don't want the client to have to come look at it only here. So I have to cut it up, edit the pieces, and then put it back together. Dang Adobe. (Insert very long string of profanity here)

Porsche-poor 02-20-2019 07:34 AM

they just want you to call them and pay a special lic fee to save a file that large.

SNOW!!!!!!!

had a awesome 2nd phone interview yesterday. They want to bring me in to meet the project team. Hopefully I get the job, sounds like a good one.

Porsche-poor 02-20-2019 08:34 AM

good for you!!! That's great news well except the snow part.

Jim Richards 02-20-2019 09:48 AM

Fingers crossed for you, Andy!

Hola y’all. Might see more rain today. Then we’ll pass it on to you folks in the SW and the plains.

GH85Carrera 02-20-2019 09:54 AM

Yea, we are supposed to have possible thunderstorms later in the week. Rain is OK, thunderstorms are just common. No spinning air and nothing frozen is just fine.

Porsche-poor 02-20-2019 10:15 AM

not to picky either up here just no white crap.

Back in the 80's, I had a teal colored Don Johnson type jacket, complete with the sleeves rolled up half way. I sheet you not.

and yes, the Ferrari Daytona is a kit car based on a corvette.

GH85Carrera 02-20-2019 10:31 AM

My mom drug home a Lime Green Leisure suit from the thrift shop when I was in high school. She gave it to me anong with a pure disco shirt, that had super skinny sleeves. It was a pure disco outfit. She hung it up in my closet. I never wore it, but my brother borrowed it a few times, and I told him to keep it.
