The part is welded up. My buddy refused payment but I stuck $20 under a piece of metal he had on his work table, in plain sight. It only took him 4 minutes of so. Still, he had to change the setup from welding steel to welding stainless steel. And he does it for a living, so 20 bucks is just a token of thanks. Any real shop would likely charge that or more, and not do while I wait.

The dealership will have the "Motors in the morning" today at 9:00 so I will rick driving my 911 with no heater this morning. It is already 80 degrees and likely going to be mid 80s by the time we are done. I suspect I shall not need the heater much in July in Oklahoma.

When I get back and the car is cooled off, I will install the heater part and be done.

Have used a Discount Muffler shop several times in the past to weld things and It has always been pretty cheap. Have learned to not trust those slip on and clamp connectors for exhaust piping. They always seem to start leaking or let go completely. If it's not got flanges and a gasket, it gets welded.

Yea, the guy at Discount is pretty good for simple stuff. He made my dual exhaust system for the Elky. But he does not have a stainless steel setup. I used a buddy that has his own welding business. He has a nice shop out behind his house. He was just finishing up a custom truck bed for Ditch Witch. If you buy one of their boring machines, it is mounted on his bed.

I ended up going the motors in the morning event with no heater system hooked up. No issues with getting cold for sure. That got the 911 nice and hot, so the garages was hot, so I figured I would put it off one day. Then the wife had other plans for my Sunday morning, and there was a F1 race to watch, and the Sebring race, and I procrastinated some more. So the AC system is cooling off the garage now. I will head out there soon and get er done.

Morning all. Finally got some spare time this weekend and took the 911 out for a drive. But only after getting a tire aired up and having to jump start it. I can neither conform or deny that traffic laws were bent after the car warmed up...…………..

The pulley seal replacement is finally done! I got the welded up part back on.

When I drove to the dealership for the free coffee and donuts on Saturday it was real obvious the power assisted brakes were not assisting at all. I would have a right leg twice the size of my left leg if I had to drive the 911 much like that. So "just one more little thing!" to fix. I had to move the compressor out of the way and I figured I had knocked a vacuum line off during that. Nope.

So I started looking around where the brake booster line is connected. It is routed up over the torsion bar, up on top of the transmission, then up next to the AC hoses into the engine compartment. Fortunately all of those spots were fine.

Hiding behind the connections for the speed and RPM sensors is the connection. Evidently the moron mechanic that last touched it failed to tighten the hose clamp. It was just held in place with friction. When the engine was lowered a couple of inches that was enough to pop it off of the nipple.

So shove it back on and tighten the clamp, and presto changeo the brakes work as designed. Next time I look in the mirror I will be sure to cuss out that idiot mechanic. One thing fer sure, I am not gonna pay him a dime for the repair. What a bonehead move.

No beer for the mech this week. Better give it to the car owner.

The Cobra has no power assist on the brakes or steering. The brakes are not bad at all with the custom Wilwood stuff. The steering is a quick ratio manual Flaming River rack and pinion unit. Good thing it is quick because I would hate to have to turn it much.

The 911 does have what they call power assist brakes. But it has no power steering. With the stock front tires it is easy to turn in a parking lot or slow speeds. With the much bigger and sticker tires it has now it is a bit heavy in parking lots. Once above 5 MPH it is super nimble and ultra precise like a laser beam steering.

The brakes have what I think is the perfect brake pedal feel. It is easy to feel just that threshold of lockup. No water pump, no ABS, power steering, no traction control, no tire pressure monitors, no computer hookup anywhere. And I do know that the brakes will work with no vacuum at all, it is really heavy, but it does work.

Sad event today. Got the call this morning, am laid off. Have worked for that company since I was 13 then 40 years full time after college. So that's 47 years total.

They have no such thing as retirement. We just got our 401K. Covid screwed that. Went from $900K to 750K. I am 7 years from SSI.

Sending a fedex with info on severence, vacation pay etc. Looks like 3 months of health insurance. And will let me know how much Cobra costs.

Long term, the stock market will bounce back assuming that is where your money is. I guess now you can apply for disability. And sell that 928!

Yep mutual funds. Moved all my 401K to an IRA. Future planning based on a conservative 2% earnings.
Listing the 928 on BaT, and they are providing premium service free.
Will take at least a year earning under $10K to get on disability. IRA distributions don't count for that year
There are more jobs out there than I thought for remote 365 admin. (my current salary) But not sure how my health would effect it.
