Another 55 degree day this morning. It did warm up a lot yesterday, but today the high is supposed to be mid 50s

In the shower head debacle, more frustration. On Monday I took the old leaking head off the wall and I took the head of the shower head style and decision makes with me to the plumbing supply place. It was a wise move, as the old head we have is of course no longer made in that style. So she picked a new design, and we paid for it, but it was not in stock. It was to arrive on Tuesday afternoon. I did NOT want to drive all the way over there at rush hour. It is a 30 minute drive through several construction zones. So I waited until Wednesday until 10:00 AM and traffic was light. Guess what, no head, the guy fessed up, and said somehow he failed to hit the "go" button on the order to get it shipped to them. So he made sure it was ordered, and said it will be here today and he will call. If he calls after 3:30 I will just wait until Friday.

The old head has slowed the leaks and works almost right. It's days are numbered anyway.

Got into work this morning, and the AC was out at the office. Unfortunately I had to wear a lead apron (underneath a paper gown and heat lamps). I thought the scrub tech was going to pass out, she was sweating so much. When I took off the lead apron after an hour of this, my shirt was so sweaty someone joked it could be wrung out. I couldn't even get it off; I needed someone else's help! (Soggy cotton scrub shirt, no stretch to the fabric, and wearing a size too small because that's all that was left in the changing room.)

cut it off

Have the sweaty female (pics or it didn't happen) scrub tech cut it off you, and then return the favor !

Probably the sweatiest I ever got indoors was in a "clean room" that was 10x cleaner than a surgery clean room. It was the room where Seagate Technologies was making hard drives. I had on the full Tyvek suit, face mask and thick rubber gloves. I was lugging around a 4x5 view camera with a 90MM lens Super wide view taking photos of the workers making drives for advertising and internal use at Seagate.

It had a high airflow from the ceiling down to a raised floor where the air was filtered and reused. I am sure just sitting there putting on parts it was comfortable, but working like I was I was sweating!

When I got out of that room my gloves were just full of sweat and looked like water balloons. My clothes were completely soaked and I drank two bottles of water and sat in front of a fan for 30 minutes. My underwear was still wet when I got home for a shower several hours later.

The photos came out great, and they were astonished how sharp and detailed they were. We made some 4x6 foot prints for the front lobby at Seagate and they got a lot of comments from visitors.

Wow, the home phone number is going nuts. I have had 15 calls, almost all from my same exchange. All different numbers. They don't even bother to leave a message which is good.

I can bet it is all calls from some helpful person trying to get me to vote for their candidate. Eff em all. I already mailed in my absentee ballot. My vote is done, and I can't change it, and I don't want it changed.

Ha ha. You (dirty) guys think alike. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/icon26.gif

Though the nurse that did help me out of the shirt is ridiculously fit. She works out every day and trains with Manny Pacquiao when he's in town preparing for a fight.

GH85Carrera 10-01-2020 09:53 AM

As least she was fit enough to not pass out from the heat and sweating. No doubt the hottest and sweatiest I ever got was at Roebling Road, just outside of Savannah, GA. The heat index was 120 to 130 that day. I had a hard time drinking enough water to keep up with my sweating. I likely should have taken some salt tablets. I did over salt my lunch that day. I normally never salt my food, but I knew I needed it that day.

Having fun here!

The plumbing supply place called and the shower head was in stock and on the front counter with my name on it. My wife had just returned from going to lunch with a friend. So we set off to retrieve the head. Of course we had just pulled out of the driveway and she thought "it might be a good idea" to run by the local nursery and get one more plant that will come back in the spring. So we got the shower head, then off the the nursery.

She found the perfect plant in the eleventy zillion million plants they have, and we came home. Of course on the way home I hear that we might should ought to go ahead and dig a hole and plant it. Of course that meant me, so I got to dig a hole in the flower bed and we shall see if it will stay small enough to be inside the garden boundary.

Then I was tasked with taking off the ditch digger, or hole digger hat and putting on the plumber hat and R&R the shower head with a new one. Right on the box of the new one it says lifetime guarantee. The old one lasted the lifetime of the shower head or maybe a dog, but not what I think of as lifetime.

I got that all done and then the sheets were done in the dryer, so she "let" me help make the bed.

Finally I got back to my very important work of logging onto Pelican. Gotta keep the post count up and keep raking in the big bucks for posting.

Do you have two cents to rub together yet from all the posts?

Not yet, just pushing around my one penny waiting for it to multiply.

Porsche-poor 10-01-2020 01:34 PM

ask the Boss to try and take it away from you. Keep pulling in it and you will have wire.

How come YouTube videos never mention torque specs? I have to replace the power steering pump on the minivan. Not a single video ever mentions torquing bolts back to spec. I think I watched about 4 different videos on this one procedure. But just about every other video for any other vehicle-related repair in the past has skipped over torque values, as well.

Granted these are all shade-tree mechanics making these videos. But I'm not sure I trust "professionals" either. The PS pump went out a year ago. An indy mechanic replaced it. I told him a remanufactured pump was OK (heck, the reman alternator I replaced has held up fine for the past 4 years). But on the way home, the pump failed. So he replaced it again. That was about 10 or 11 months ago. Now, the pump is making noises again (sounds like the bearing is going). The part should have a one-year warranty, but I'm not sure I want him monkeying around in my car anymore. So I'm just going to eat the few hundred dollars for a new part and do it myself.

The young lady that hss been helping me since I've gotten out of stroke rehab worked at at a dispensary 9 months ago but hasn't received any unemployment. Someone else was claiming it. However, they were depositing it in their bank acount and the unemployment agency is going after them. Yesteray she receivded a debit card with $17K on it. She logged online to deposit the balance from the card to her bank. Only AFTER she was told the balance could not be transferred, and instead had to be deposited at the bank personally with s $5K limit from the card per day. Because she followed the insstructions online her unemployment is now in limbo until it does not deposit in her bank (10 days) and is transfered back to the card. In other words the State is making interest on unemployment money for 10 days while you cannot get your unemployment.

Since she has been having touble getting her unemployment like I have with unenemployment and insurance, and I am grateful for her taking care of me since the stroke...cooking, cleaning, puting meds together, exercising, taking me to appointments, runing erands, etc. i gave her money to buy a used car. She is going to pay me back when she gets her unemployment from transfer limbo.

My brother tells me I am throwing my money away and not to complain to him when she doesn't pay me back.

Noah, most YouTube how to videos seem to have lots a talk, and BS before they do anything, and then a poor description of how or any details. If you watch several videos of one procedure you might get some tips.

Most thing, I just forge ahead on my own and figure it out. Trying to find a decent video of what I want to do is usually the hard part so I skip it.

The power steering or water pump on my 911 has never given me one bit of problem. ;)

I had to replace the PS pump twice on the El Camino in the 371,000 miles. It is fairly easy, just messy. I did have to buy a 18mm crowfoot line wrench to get one fitting off.

Porsche-poor 10-02-2020 07:19 AM

Morning all. TGIF! Got the platform bed frame moved. I can see the garage floor again.

Noah930 10-02-2020 11:43 AM

Great. My teen-aged daughter decided she wanted a new bed, so she bought a frame off the internet and her old queen-sized one (a nice--albeit old--one from Crate and Barrel) is taking up space along one wall of her room. I need a place to store it...

GH85Carrera 10-02-2020 11:49 AM

Let her sell it and you get the money. Why do you want to keep an old bed?

Noah930 10-02-2020 11:52 AM

Because she'll change her mind next week. She's a teenager. And also, she's a she.

Noah930 10-02-2020 11:54 AM

She'll also wind up selling it via Depop to some other teenager in Texas or Wisconsin, and then I'll have to figure out how to ship the stupid thing.
