The boss's wife came in my office and demanded we clean out the TV and stereo cabinet. It is on the opposite wall of my computer, and I will admit is was overdue for a good cleaning. The dust was pretty thick. It is just such a pain to move the DVR player (not used very much) and the surround sound stereo amp, used for watching TV so used all the time. Then the DVR for the security video cameras outside, the old VCR that still works. It gets very little use, but I do have some tapes that I want to transfer to digital and until I do that I will keep the VCR. Then the Tivo TV DVR and of course the TV. All have been moved, all dust removed and placed back in place.

It does look better.

Porsche-poor 01-21-2021 09:45 AM

but does it all still work?

I think so. I have not had time to test every component as yet.

Porsche-poor 01-21-2021 10:49 AM

fingers crossed for you. Every time I mess with the TV cabinet something gets disconnected just enough to not work.

Porsche-poor 01-22-2021 07:29 AM

Morning all. TGIF!!!!!

The TV system all worked, I was successful in that.

The State of Oklahoma hired Microsoft to build and run the state portal for covid vaccinations. It works fine for for the most part. At least it did not crash at all under the crush of users. We have 77 counties on Oklahoma and each county has their own vaccination setups. We can go to any county, and the first shot we had to go the Custer county 95 miles away. They gave us each a card to record the first shot and when and where it was done. There was no follow up appointment for shot two. We asked and there was no way to set up a second shot appointment then.

Other friends got shots in Tulsa and they were booked for a second shot on the spot. Others friends received an email with links to set up a second shot. If we went to the portal it just said you had your first shot, and no provision to get a second. Finally deep in the questionnaire one little check box was have you received a vaccine in the last two weeks. If I pick that it asks if it was a Covid vaccine, but not which brand of shot. On the next page is the verification of information entered, and it has a window to select the type of shot, but it is grey out and non functional. So I finished the questionnaire and closed it. 10 minutes later it sent an email and said I could register for a second shot.

So the site works, but not real intuitively. Maybe it is a intelligence test to test computer skills.

So next week, when we are eligible to have the second shot, we will make another appointment.

Oklahoma is ranked at #8 in percentage of vaccinations given compared to vaccines on hand. California is 48, Virginia at 49 and Alabama at number 50.

Still having fun!

The house alarm system sent me a text message and email that the system battery was low. OK, time to replace that battery. I did that and suddenly the alarm system says the batteries in the windows and doors are low. That ain't no dang battery in the window sensors or door systems!

The only part of the alarm system that have batteries is the motion detectors and the two garage door sensors. Our dogs kind freak out with the beeping of the panel so I had to figure out how to shut it up. Of course the system starts sending me email and text messages about each alert, and it records 30 second clips from the cameras. So my phone is going off like a crack dealer with a two for one sale. Golly it was fun!

I received stunning news on Friday evening. My nephew was found dead sitting at his computer. He was 33 or 34 in great physical shape, and running three business.

I really don't know much about how he was found and how long it had been since he was last seen alive. My brother and sister in law are just devastated and just lost without him. His younger brother called them Friday to say he was going to his remote camping site in the Colorado woods and would be out of touch for a while.

I honestly can't even imagine the hurt the parents are feeling.

Porsche-poor 01-25-2021 06:44 AM

Morning all.

Wow that would be a shock to the system. Never fun news and to just be out of the blue, yikes.

Any update on Richard?

GH85Carrera 01-25-2021 06:56 AM

Richard is still in rehab, and last I heard the stroke was worse than they first thought, or he has had another stroke. It is not good news.

Maybe today I will learn the cause of my nephew's death. In the end, it does not truly matter, he is still just as dead.

Porsche-poor 01-25-2021 07:22 AM

sad but true. Possibly the best way to go just no warning and bam. Not great for the family but one does not have to go thru something like Richard is right now.

GH85Carrera 01-25-2021 07:33 AM

Yea, I certainly don't want to spend months in the hospital.

My dad spent his last few months in an extended care facility gasping for air. He said to me me "son, a man should not have to live like this" and I have to agree.

My former boss did it right. He took his last flight as a pilot in command on his 92nd birthday. He then took "early retirement" and sold the company. He lived a healthy life to age 99, and still drove his car. He kissed his wife goodnight and walked upstairs and went to bed. She finished a move and found him dead when she went upstairs. Just weeks before his death I called him trying to find the phone number of the plumber he used. He instantly said, that is Ralph and his number is 555-1212 only he gave me the correct phone number. He was a remarkable man.

Porsche-poor 01-25-2021 07:42 AM

That would be the way to go.

pete3799 01-25-2021 12:43 PM

Sorry to hear about your nephew Glen.

What's up with my computer?
It used to be that i could click on "new posts" and get all the new posts (off topic and parf etc.).
Now all i get are Porsche related new posts.
In order to get off topic i have to go to the off topic forum.
Any idea how to fix that?.

flipper35 01-25-2021 01:05 PM

Afternoon all. Pete, no idea. I jump right to PPOT in the browser.

GH85Carrera 01-25-2021 01:17 PM

Pete, it sound like it is updating the wrong forum.

Like Brent, I just go right to Off Topics and and start reading the post of interest.

Porsche-poor 01-26-2021 06:50 AM

Morning all. Much colder here this week. The weather heads say winter mix conditions. We shall see.

GH85Carrera 01-26-2021 09:13 AM

I pulled my GPS from the closet to update it with a fresh map download. I plugged it into the computer and it booted up, said low battery, and then went dead. It is now a brick. It will not wake up when plugged into the computer or a 12 volt power connector. Crap. So I get to get a new GPS. It was pretty old, at least 10 years old so it have been on many trips with me. Ah well.

I have a new one set to be here tomorrow. The new one will have more modern features. The one thing I bet it still does not have is a "Keep me out of the ghetto" mode. My old one would pull up a list of gas stations ahead, and happily drive me into the areas I do not want to be in. Even worse, if I ask how to get to a place, it would take me through Chicago south side down city streets rather than interstate and go two miles further.

My first GPS was a Lorance version that had a Scenic route" mode. It found some great mountain roads.

And yea, my phone has a GPS and can do a lot of those things, but it needs a cell signal that is not always available like a GPS signal. In Florida my brother and I were trying to get back to the hotel and the road was closed. He pulled out his phone, I used my phone and the GPS as well to get to the hotel. We had three women's voices bi*tching at us to go three different ways at one intersection. I finally said screw it, and I did a 180 and went back to the main road and I could see our hotel in the distance. All of sudden all three of the devices agreed with my sense of direction and gave us the same directions. The GPS did not see the road ahead was closed for construction, and the two phones had different paths that just were a trip around the block and back to the same spot.
