G'day y'all.
|
Howdy stranger.
Long time since ya dropped by. I see you are doing lots of traveling and enjoying life. What a concept! How y'all doing? |
How was the winter?
|
Phew, out spreading money around at various business in my suburb.
For the last 30 year the El Camino had two little 3.5 inch speakers in the dash. The windshield has to come out to replace them. Finally the aftermarket came to the rescue and they make the lower door panel with dual speaker holes. I would have preferred just one speaker hole, but I finally ordered the door panels. I will have to paint them the proper interior color. So I needed some adhesion enhancer, and some denatured alcohol to clean the plastic first. Of course I need 4 speakers, and some speaker wire. It will be a lot of "ain't never done that before" stuff for me, but I will figure it out. Then I will replace the carpet, and install some new seat belts, made by Seat Belt Planet. They are just a few miles down the road from me. Today it is 102 again, but tomorrow it is supposed to cool off, and Thursday it will be nice in the mornings. A week out we are expecting the heat dome to leave us, and go back west where it belongs. It might even go visit David. It will be easier to air condition my garage for the projects. |
Mid 70s here today. Got the trailer home last week. Should work for the motorcycles and mini-Jeep, kayaks and canoe.

Afternoon all. Its about 96 here in Eastern WA and the sun is not shy about being seen. I might be done in the next day or two which will still put in here at 100+.
|
Whoo Hooo . 71 degrees outside, and time to play in the garage without the AC pumping and I can have the garage door up.
|
Afternoon all. And just like that I finished the work and went home to the land of below 90 out.
|
Another 70 degree morning. It was humid enough that I ended up running the AC after a while, mostly to get rid of the humidity. It never got out of the 80s here.
Back to the garage! |
Morning all. Back in the office for the rest of the week.
|
Morning. It didn't cool off here till almost this morning. Then it rained on my drive into the office.
|
It was 67 degrees when I went to the garage. Dang, having fun now.
The factory speakers in the El Camino are two little 3.5 inch speakers in the dash. The last time I had the windshield out for a replacement, about 15 years ago, I put in two "high quality" speakers with larger magnets, and more robust cone design. They were better, but still not great sound. The right side speaker has dried out from the sun and it is blown, so now really bad sound. To replace them means remove the windshield. So there are aftermarket lower door panels that have speaker inserts. Easy fix right! What a major pain. First they are black, so I will have to use the special plastic paint to make them burgundy. But it also means I need wires in the doors. So I have to take apart a lot of the interior to get to the plastic plug in the door area, drill a 5/8th hole abd run the wire and use a grommet to keep the water out in the rain. Same for the door itself. Then run the wires. The new panels are close the right size but need a lot of adjustments. And "while I am in there" I will replace the carpeting that is worn out and faded. And while I am in there, I might as well replace the seatbelts made by a local company, Seat Belt Planet. So the seats have to come out to replace the carpet. I am two days into a 10 day project it looks like. Golly what fun. In the end the interior will finally look right again, and I will have a far better sound system. |
Our deck is done. We had good weather for the guys. Also got a job offer and now I have to decide if I want it.
Off to take a bunch of crap to the local dump. |
Hey, take the job! The country needs your taxes. ;)
Phew, another stretch in the garage. I am loving my air conditioner. I would have died from exhaustion in the heat, 102 heat index right now. Tomorrow the high is supposed to be only 80 and they even call for rain. Yea right. I got overwhelmed with the "while yer in there" and what started as get some speakers worth a crap. I bought new seat belts not long ago, but I was waiting for the carpeting to be available to install them. So right now the Elky has no carpet, but I have the new stuff here. Just gotta install the seat belts, carpet and finish the door panels. I figure at my rate it will be another full week of garage time. The seat belts are not right, so I will take them the old ones to be rebuilt. The speakers the stereo shop sold me do not fit the holes in the new panels, and the only had two of the right size, so that comes in on Tuesday. Fortunately, Seat Belt Planet is just a few miles from my house, and I will bring them the old seat belts to be rebuilt, hopefully they will work with me on time and a refund on the wrong ones they sold me. The carpet is going to need a lot of work to get it to fit, it is just over sized and needs a lot of trim work. It is enough to make me wish I was just a checkbook repair guy. I know once it is all done, it will be right, but damn this is a lot of work. |
Morning all. ITs Monday in the office.
|
I went down to Seat Belt Planet in my 911. I went in and it is just an office, and not really set up for retail sales. A guy at the closest desk ask what he could do for me. So I showed him my old seat belts and the ones they had sold me. He understood the issues. Of course there is no ready source for the stock seat mechanisms for 1980s cars. They can rewebb my old units, and they gave me a full refund of the old seat belts that are useless me, and applied that to my rebuilt ones. They will be done by Thursday. My factory seat belts had a center section for a cozy third passenger. It has only been used a few dozen time in the 30 years I have owned the car, but I wanted it as well.
So it started as replace the seat belts. But to get the seat belts out I have to remove the seat. Well while I am in there, it is the perfect time to replace the old faded and worn out carpet, so might as well. And the speakers in the dash are junk, so while I am in there, I might as well get speakers for the doors. Project creep for sure. The guy there is a car guy. He saw my 911 and I showed him my car, and we chatted about it for 15 minutes. He builds Shelby Mustangs as a side gig, and has a 66 Mustang restomod and some more modern Mustang. Super nice place. |
Morning all. Off to go play with process drawings. Glen will like this one............its beer.
|
So a CAD drawing of beer? Hopefully the beer making machinery or the building.
We have another cool day. I got outside and started mowing at 8:00 and it was still in the 60s, but the dew was heavy, and the humidity was thick, and no breeze at all. I was going to work on the Elky interior project but Mrs. Carrera had other plans. Her best friend that she eats lunch with regularly is on vacation in Colorado. So I was the substitute lunch partner. She wanted to try a BBQ place that was recommended. It was across the county line, but a easy drive up a nice two lane road lined with expensive housing editions. Tons on trees and rolling hills, so a pretty drive. It was good BBQ, and tender meat. So another great BBQ place. Almost as rare as another Mexican food restaurant or burger joint. |
The process lines from the hot water tank to the cleaning system. So no actual beer but for a beer making plant,
|
So no free beer samples!
