If you have not started training a new language by the age of 6-8 you are basically screwed, Dave. :D

But seriously, there is no shortcut. Reading and listening. We could all start writing in our native languages here, but I would be pretty much on my lonesome.

Just looking for a crash course. I can make due with the translators online and found a cool online (free) website with courses. The basics are making sense.

I did a crash course Spanish. You'd be amazed how much you can learn in 5 days.
(reading and writing)
My dad did the 3 weeks total immersion course (also Berlitz Language school)
His Spanish is very very good, very extensive vocabulary and grammar. He can sit down in a random tapas bar and chit chat with the locals, no problem. Truely amazing, but downright expensive courses..
