Spammer is spoofing one of my e-mail accounts
Is there anyway to stop this?
|
Nope. If he can send email from a server that doesn't verify domain, then there is no way. (Oh sure, you can report him to his ISP,but chances are they're in on it)
Send a message to your contacts and/or change your address. |
You could go the legal route, by suing, getting injunctions, etc...
But that is slow, expensive, and ineffective. |
Define spoofing.
I get junk mail to me that comes from me but not really. They have not compromised my server, they just use my address in the From field but it's not really coming from me, just looks that way. |
I'm getting "bounce back" e-mails from other domains, and the message that was being sent was spam.
This is an old hotmail account, which I use for spam control (I use this e-mail when you HAVE to put an e-mail some place). But it is also my oldest active account. Anyway, I'm hoping the spammer moves on to some other account. |
Change the password.
And no they will not move on. EDIT: Misread, they are using your address as the From but have not actually hacked your account? |
No, my account is not hacked. They are simply spoofing my address as the return address.
|
Contact some white-hat hackers.
Some of them will go after spammers for sport like some people go after Nigerian scammers for sport. |
Close the account, open another one. If necessary, inform whoever you use this account to communicate with about the spoofing (that doesn't matter if you use use it for spam control.)
|
Sorry.
I'll stop. |
