Canon Digital Elphs. Solid proven platform that has been around for years. Get a used one for <$100.

she has a thin Sony one now, but wants to replace it - yet still have a thin cam

Get her a new iphone 3Gs, good camera, video and all the other stuff.

Panasonic with the Leica lens. Hard to beat and excellent quality shots.

I got an Elph for x-mas. It is thin and is smaller than a wallet. I haven't mastered the manual settings. I think it does well for a compact.

cannon 880: a little over 1/2" thick with a really cool wide angle lens.

This, the picture quality is remarkable. The camera is super easy to use and you will love the quality of it.

I bought a Fugi underwater Camera and I am disappointed in the quality of the color in the photos.
