How do you store your guns?

Most everything is in a safe somewhere, but I do have three "display" guns left out:

A 1920's Remington Shotgun.

It has a badly pitted barrel and would explode if someone tried to shoot it. It has a trigger lock on it, which doesn't really matter because it is a 20 gauge and I don't keep any of that in the house.

A $65 Single-Shot Shotgun.

It has a trigger lock on it as well. If someone tried to steal it...oh well.

A Reproduction Musket.

If a robber brought bullets, powder, and percussion caps with them, I'd even let them load it before shooting them. No trigger lock on this one.

Poorly.

MotoSook 07-29-2009 02:01 PM

Some in a locked steel cabinet with the bolt or pin removed and stored in a safe elsewhere. The rest are in a fire proof safe. So the kids or thief would need to crack the safe after breaking into the locked steel case to be able to fire anything.

porsche4life 07-29-2009 02:02 PM

All locked in a fireproof safe except the varmint shootin .22

peppy 07-29-2009 02:06 PM

Jeff Higgins 07-29-2009 02:07 PM

I just leave them laying all over hell. Loaded.

Is this true or are you trying to lure me into confessing my slovenly ways?

Rick Lee 07-29-2009 02:17 PM

Small of my back, one in my work desk, one in my key cabinet, one in my night table, one behind my bed and many more in the safe.

HardDrive 07-29-2009 02:25 PM

My 5 year olds sock drawer.

I knew a retired LEO that did just that. Dusty loaded revolvers all over his house in plan sight. I knew of about 4 or 5 of them between his study, shed and living room. Just sitting on an end table, railing or work bench. I'd move one to make some room on the table and he'd casually say, 'its loaded, they all are, useless when empty'

tabs 07-29-2009 03:16 PM

Thrown in a pile on the living room floor.

masraum 07-29-2009 03:52 PM

wrapped in tissue paper (bright pink gift paper) in a wall safe.

+1

That's where they can do the most good. The ones that are literally sitting out in the open are in a sock to keep the dust out.

afterburn 549 07-29-2009 04:24 PM

I do not like locking them up...make me feel stupid, sort of like the media has convinced everyone they will jump up and shoot
Makes me feel like I have no control over them.........
That kids will come through the door and automatically have to play Russian Rulet
I do not want to fall in"Their Play Doh Soup"
It is not "my" fault " bad parenting to NO parenting now exist

In my pants, so I can pull it out quickly when entering a club in NY to show it off.

What? Its not like anything bad can happen, such as shooting myself.

austin552 07-29-2009 04:25 PM

On the bed, where else?

Jeff Higgins 07-29-2009 05:24 PM

I, myself, have a reputation for being found lying all over hell. Loaded.

Porsche-O-Phile 07-29-2009 05:26 PM

In the bathroom. You never know when an intruder is gonna' break in while you're on the crapper.

Of course there was that one time I thought I'd reached for the toilet paper at about three in the morning...

It healed right up though.

targa911S 07-29-2009 06:46 PM

I stack em and sort em.

I lost all of mine in a tragic boating accident.

+1 Some are stashed away unloaded, but many are out in the open ready to use in seconds (mainly for varmints). Guns are tools to me and my family.... kind of like a fly-swatter, a screwdriver or a TV remote.

Hopefully you never mistake a gun for any of those other three! ;)

Crepitus 07-30-2009 01:14 PM

Defense weapons, loaded, handy, but out of sight. Stored weapons are kept separate from bolts or other key components to render them useless to thief.

nynor 07-30-2009 01:34 PM

i am not saying. i don't want the jack-booted thugs to know where they are.

It's too bad you weren't wearing it in these shots.
