Cool Fire Video!!
Quick video of live fire training we had today at work, it shows the progression of fire to the rollover and flash-over stage. It helps us to recognize the conditions that lead up to flash-over and what we need to do to avoid and prevent it, really good training.

Those simulators are pretty realistic as too what happens in a real scenario. The simulator is basically a couple of shipping containers stuck together with a controlled burn and ventilation system.
I've been lucky so far. Never got caught in a flashover, but have been caught in a few nasty rollovers. Most common place for a rollover is a long hallway.

Interesting. My brother was a volunteer fireman in Youngstown NY and got a call out to a house fire. As they arrived there was little outward sign of a fire. One of the crew opened the upper door on a rear deck and got blown back by the hot blast, as the fire was waiting for air to burn. The house was quickly consumed by the fire, which flashed over very quickly. Once the door was opened it was an inferno. Apparently the fire had been smoldering for some time. His wife made that his last call. It was close, especially if some of the crew had entered on a lower level before the upper door was opened to create a draft and air source.
