electrolux kitchen appliances, reliable

You may or may not have seen my other thread asking about LG appliances.

Can anyone tell me anything about Electrolux stuff? Do you have some, and how reliable has it been?

Thanks

We bought an electrolux dish washer. It has the same features as a KitchenAide that's about a 1/3 more expensive. We've only had it a few months so I can't comment on reliability, but so far so good.

About the same as above. We bought a new Electrolux gas/electric range several months ago. I am very impressed with the functionality & build quality but I don't know how it will fair. Check back with me in 5 years.

my parents bought an electrolux vacuum cleaner back in the early sixties. other than replacing a belt about every fifteen tears and new bags it has been trouble free.
my little sister has had it since the late eighties. still going strong.

still have my 1960's electrolux as well. I recently bought a Dyson animal and it can't compete with the electrolux ( although the neighborhood experiences a brown-out when I power the old vacuum up ). I don't know if they have the same quality as they did back then but if they do I would buy again.

My parents had an electrolux canister vac years ago, it lasted a long time and worked really well, but I'm not sure that the quality translates to modern kitchen appliances from old vacuums.

A few more thoughts...

first, we have the Icon series stuff (http://www.electroluxicon.com/) --not 'pro series" as I had thought before.

The Bosch DW we had prior was more quiet, and had better stem-ware handling. (than the ELux)

We've had the Fridge just a few years, and the D/W ~1year

Went through a long research process when we specced out the equipment for our addition, ended up with a couple GE (range and downdraft hood) and a couple Kitchenaid (microwave/convection oven combo and dishwasher). Two main reasons - not enough time on the market for the E-luxe, and the price point and deals beign offered by the other manufacturers were more attractive. Electroluxe had no rebate offers, dealers wouldn't/couldnt deal on the price, even for a full package of appliances. Overall, I got the sense I would have been paying for the name. Other brands however, ended up with a significant savings.

Try AJMadison.com for price comparisons.

At that end of the market, I would buy Kitchen Aide or GE Monogram, Profile or even Cafe. Why Electroluxe? I have never had to put any of their stuff in clients' homes, but I can ask my dealer and get some feed back from them. If need be, I will call my rapair man as well. He will tell me if its a go or not. I don't know how many different levels they have? Like GE's Monogram, profile and such?

Kitchen Aide is one of our options, and we like the GE bottom-2-drawer-freezer, French door fridge. So really, Electrolux is a runner up. The problem is that I've heard a few less than great things about GE (one on this board and Consumer reports says the GE bottom freezer models aren't great for reliability).

I haven't been able to find much Kitchen Aide info. So in your experience it's reliable, good stuff?

Thanks

AFAIK, the GE fridge is built by Samsung. We bought a Samsung fridge too, and so far so good, although the ice maker is a little loud. Just don't get me started on my Samsung TV from hell.

From what I've heard, the KitchenAide stuff is good and is sold at many high end stores as their lesser brand, below Sub Zero, etc.

Good to know. My Samsung TV is fine, but I did have to get service out once (free in warranty), but that's because I didn't upgrade the firmware when I should have.

OK, so that's two recommendations for GE fridge.

The new Electrolux is NOT the same as the Electrolux you remember from years past. They sold the brand name and are now Aerus.

That said, we HATE our GE Profile dishwasher as does my sister. We have the same ones. Our GE fridge GSH22JFTD WW makes noise all the time. Does not seem to maintain temperature as a constant. The ice maker is SLOW. Do not like!

We had a VERY basic, small Maytag fridge in Texas. Worked great, quiet!!! We have a Maytag in the basement (MFF2557HEB) and I swear it coughs! Keeps the temperature maintained easily at normal settings.

We had a Kenmore (Maytag) dishwasher in Texas. Near the top of the line, it did a WONDERFUL job and was very, very quiet. We also had the portable type that was very basic. They still sell them. Both do a MUCH better job of cleaning than the GEs.

from Ristenbatt: "As a result of the Electrolux brand name being sold, the company which is so well know in the USA for its Electrolux vacuums has changed its name to Aerus LLC and is marketing its products under the Aerus brand name. Under the agreement, their products were permitted to be known as "Aerus by Electrolux" until April 1, 2004. Also, The Electrolux Group of Sweden was able to start importing and distribution their Electrolux vacuum cleaners in the USA through their subsidiary, The Eureka Company. One limitation on the distribution of their Electrolux brand vacuums in the USA still exists though... they may not be sold through vacuum cleaner specialty stores until June of 2007.

April 1, 2004 is quite important as well for the Electrolux name since it is the date that The Eureka Company officially changed its name to Electrolux Home Care Products North America (Electrolux Home Care Products Ltd). This name change reflects who they are and have been for the past 30 years, a subsidiary of The Electrolux Group of Sweden. As such, they will continue to manufacture and market vacuum cleaners and other products under the Eureka, Sanitaire and Beam brand names plus additional products under the Electrolux brand name. "

Thanks all, I think we've switched over to Kitchenaid. Electrolux was a runner up. We've done some research and like the Kitchenaid stuff. I think the plan is to get a Kitchenaid "Architect II" series dishwasher. It's stainless inside and out and only 46 dB (should be really quiet). Also, a Kitchenaid single 30" convection wall-over in the Architect II series and later this year, a bottom freezer fridge. Then, we'll also need a gas cooktop since all of our current stuff is white and the new stuff is going to be stainless. (good grief $$$$$$)

Unless someone comes up with any serious negatives against any of that stuff

This is what we went with. If you have the space for a double, I'd highly recommend it.

I dont remember the specific dishwasher we went with, but it was Architect series as well.

My choice was Kitchenaid. Wife's choice was the other stuff. She was still mad over the granite countertops that were not the exact type she wanted so I let it go.

Well, I'll just add, that appliance selection is pretty much a crap-shoot. That is, the re-design cycle is so often, that you really don't know what you will end up with. Times have changed, and no longer can you buy the same design & build of something of 5 years ago (maybe 5 months ago).

This is especially true of appliances with any "smarts." Rev's happen like updates to software. ...but you have what ever rev you bought. (hope that it's not buggy)

We are changing where the oven is, so we used to have a double, but we'll only have a single now. We'll be getting the convection, so ours will be similar but not exactly the same.
