Anyone use Chubb Ins?
I have used Liberty Mutual for many years - switched to Allstate for...well I really don't know why but theyhave fck'd up so much in the last month that I am now shopping.
I work with Chubb Ins for some industrial loss prevention. I had dinner the other night with one of their guys and he told me I should look at them for home and auto. I asked around and most had never heard of them till I asked a few of my very wealthy friends who have them. Seems like they are very high end but worth it. They say they have an internal saying "if it's grey, we pay." Hmmm. I would be willing to increase my premiums for more peice of mind and less hastle. I haven't had a claim in 7 years but it seems like the more out of debt I get the more protection I want for what I have worked hard for. Thoughts on Chubb Ins?

You get what you pay for.
Chubb is one of good insurers...which is somewhat unusual considering they are a stock company (not mutual).

I use them.
They're very good. Worth the extra if you think you may need them. HOWEVER if you have two or three claims with them, they will drop you like a hot potato. The important thing to appreciate here is that all home insurers are linked to a central information exchange. If you have had one or two claims, your insurer will note this in the information exchange. And Chubb is pretty well at the top of the food chain here. Point being, if you're insured with Chubb and actually have a couple of claims, they will drop you. And it's going to be damn difficult to find anyone else who'll insure you in their place.

I use them for most of my clients (ultra wealthy). It is great and they cover a lot of things others wont/can't.
I highly recommend. Also check out Ace ( http://www.acelimited.com/AceLimitedRoot/ )...I have started using them for some things and they are very good too. Jim

I have my insurance via Chubb for my house and daily drivers - very good. Not the cheapest but I ain't looking for that I'm looking for no crap if I make a claim......
I actually spoke with PCA, when I was moving from the UK to USA, I was put in contact with a fellow PCA's who recommended Chubb. I use Grundy for my Classics ..... Last edited by nick911rs; 07-29-2009 at 12:26 PM.. |

Chubb was excellent for a homeowners claim I had. Lightning hit a tree in the front yard, took out a bunch of electronics. All repaired & replaced no questions. At first adjuster denied the tree-removal and clean-up, then he called me back and said they would consider it landscaping and paid for that also.

Chubb has a reputation in the industry for writing very broad coverage language in their policies (i.e. covering things no one else does and using fewer exclusisons) and paying on difficult claims. I think they're a little higher than the cheapies but you do get more.
For someone with home and auto and a clean record, it's hard to beat the rates of State Farm. In my experience they're the most professionally run insurance company and have the best trained adjusters. They are quite on top of things so they're not going to give you breaks on a gray area, but they'll be fair to the letter of the contract (you just might not like the contract language). They generally have the lowest rates of the major insurers because of their market size and meticulous claim handling.
