What the heck is this thing?

This is a short navel orange tree. I saw this on a leaf. It is 3-4 inches long.

What the heck is this thing?

Looks like a POS that is drying out on a leaf

masraum 07-30-2009 05:00 AM

Well, unless a cat or small dog managed to perch on a twig and crap on a leaf....

My guess is caterpillar. It even looks like it goes to "feet" in between the indentations along the sides.

It looks moldy. Freaky looking thing.

Hey, if you stroke it just right, you end up with this.

THAT was one of the best improvs ever. I doubt that SNL ever has a problem of having to fill a couple of minutes of time on a show, anymore.

Thats one ugly mother. Better send for Sigourney Weaver.

red-beard 07-30-2009 01:57 PM

I thought it was dead, since it hadn't moved all day. But I put the backyard water sprinkler on for an hour. That woke it up. It is now happily munching on Navel Orange leaves :(

Put in in a mesh cage and feed it some leaves and hope it turns soon. Swallowtails are quite impressive.

M.D. Holloway 07-30-2009 08:08 PM

The more ugly the caterpillar the more beautiful the butterfly - much the same for women!

You've never experienced gypsy moths
