Plumbing question??

I repaired a rental house that had been victim of the midnight plumbers. I had to repair the main water line inside of the block wall, and run up to where the new meter would be.
I have done this on several houses already, and this was the first one that did not have a soft copper line, this one was regular old 3/4" copper pipe. I soldered it up, and the water authority guy came out, and hung the meter. While he did pass my work, he told my partner that solder connections before the meter were not wise, and he would rather see a "mechanical connection". I was not there , so I couldn't ask the questions, but I am assuming he meant a compression fitting, or one of those new style quick connects. Is this correct? I always assumed a good solder joint is about as good as it gets. any advice appreciated

I would take that to mean compression fitting. Hey if you plumb inside much I would suggest getting the good pliers and going to PEX past the meter.

PEX is OK if you don't have any rodents around. Rats and mice luv to eat it....Intant leaks.........

You can cut it straight and clean up the cut, then push on a sharkbite connector, which will change it to threaded.
