Where can one find a gunny sack?

A few days ago, I was in the garage getting some clothes out of the dryer when I heard a weird sound. It got louder, and I realized it was a cat trapped in the garage. I opened the main door, it scampered out, and I didn't think anything more of it, until I went to work, and found that the freakin' cat was once again in the garage. I chased it out again, and went on with life. That was 2 or 3 days ago.

Today, I get home from work to find a bunch of the neighborhood kids milling about on my front lawn. I asked them what was up, and one of them said "I think our cat had kittens" Greeeeaaaat. Well, there's no real obvious birthing sites in the front, but on a hunch, I went to the back yard, where I have a couple of 'project' cars stashed. As I'm tromping towards the cars, I saw the same damn cat run out from under the tarp that I was walking on... I pull back the tarp, and there's 4 kittens all curled up in a ball. I ran back into the house to get the camera, and when I got back, mom had already collected one of them. She was a bit freaked out - the carried it all the way across the street, and then back, hiding under my '57 sunroof bug. From there she wouldn't do anything - she just mewed at me. She had one with her under the trans, another was writhing on the ground by the f/l wheel, and the other two were still laying out in the open. I put the all with the mom, who kept meowing at me, and then left her alone for a bit. When I went back, 2 of the kittens were MIA. Hmm. I pull up the tarp again, and voila! Mommy and kittens. I'm probably pissing her off, but I put them back under the oval and folded up the tarp - it's right out in the open and they're just asking to get smushed.

is this related to the fried green tomatoes thread??

Update: Mom decided to hide in the oval, but only took one of the kittens with her. That had to be quite the climb up the side of the bug, under the tarp, with a kitten in her mouth; judging by the scrapes in the side of the car, it took a couple of tries. I set a couple of milk crates next to the quarter window to make it easier next time. I grabbed the other two which were still under the car and put them in the passenger-side footwell with mom. Kitten #4 is still MIA :( I hunted around, but couldn't find it anywhere. She may have taken it across the street where she 'lives'

I usually use Gunny Sack Emporium or Gunny Sacks 'N Things. Gunny Sack Emporium is the only one that carries the large cadaver size though.

Update: #4 is present and accounted for.

Good news...since momma cat isn't yours, I'd vote for leaving her and her brood alone. Odds are great she'll lead them "home" once they are older. She probably sees something there as a threat to them.

Could be the 3 screaming kids. This lady has no visible means of support, although lots of visible tats, yet she has a new Lincoln Navigator on 22" wheels.

I suspect there are more than a few people on this forum that don't know what a gunny sack is? Around where I grew up they were called tow sacks (or was it toe sacks?)

dhoward 08-06-2009 06:11 AM

Pota-toe sack

Oh, I know her. She lives off of the child support checks, one from each dad.

Two bailouts with one stone.

Oh, leave the cats alone. Are they really bothering you?

Heck, she's probably keeping feral mice from chewing on your cars' wiring, seats, etc. by being there.

Plus I like her. She looks exactly like my two, right down to the green eyes and white markings. Maybe they're related?

Porsche-O-Phile 08-06-2009 08:07 AM

The resemblance is uncanny - my two (mother & son):

POP, wow...looks like you stole my wife's cat! exact replica! i dont have any pics because the cat and i,,,well, we just tolerate each other.

those kittens are cute! what are the long term plans? capture them all, get them fixed? momma especially.

widebody911 08-06-2009 09:40 AM

There are several un-fixed cats the frequent my back yard, and use my carport as a huge litter box. I'd thought about trapping them and taking them down to ASPCA to get them fixed, but never got around to doing it. I doubt that any of the people that 'own' these cats will do it, and I'm sure they'd be curious if fluffy came home one day with an oopherectomy scar.

my neighbor does that. she is constantly trapping them and taking them to some low $$, almost free program for birth control. then she lets them free again, to crap in my planter boxes.

ok, i give up...what is a gunny sack?

Burlap sack...used to be quite common for animal feed sacks.
