Had a great day with my 5YO son. :)

As stated in previous threads, my new job has me in areas that are unknown to me. I have been being a tourist whilst doing my job, trying to see new sights and fun things for the family.

I found a railroad station in Walled Lake last week that had an old train sitting there. I thought my son would get a kick out of seeing it up close.

We took the 911 down today and found out they give rides on it. We and just a few other folks took a train ride over to West Bloomfield along the old tracks which were laid out in the 1800's. The car we were in was built in 1917 and it was the very first train car to have electricity in the country. Who installed the power, you ask? Mr. Thomas Alva Edison!!!!!!

Here is the website as they have all kinds of activities for kids. My son even got to blow the airhorn as we got back into the station.http://www.rail-road.com/
My wife and I are thinking about doing the "dinner" train some weekend.

Porsche content? The conductor has a 1980 928 and his own caboose converted in to a private rail car.

We both had fun. I got to drive the 911 on some new roads with my best little navigator(he likes to repeat the GPS lady) and he had a new train experience. My wife and daughter were doing "girl" stuff today. I forgot the digital camera and was forced to buy a disposable. Once I get the pics back I 'll post some of them.

Most people dont realize it, Time is our most valuble commodity. It can never, ever be replaced. Money and material things can be obtained again, not time.

Enjoy the time you spend with your kids and family. When they get older you will miss it.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Here are a couple of shots that turned out ok. I let Jacob take all of the pics during our adventure. He didn't take any outside pics of the train we actually rode although he was thoughtful enough to get a couple of the 911 in the parking lot. That's my boy!!

this is the Silver Clipper dinner train:

I really like reading these type of threads regarding children and family. My wife and I are finally getting around to have a child. We're in our late thirty's and worry about the change in our life's... But we're both ready and want this.... It would be great to teach a child some of the good things I have learned in my life, and also to have a small someone to pal around with.

Thanks for sharing your train/911 story with us.

John
