Anyone know of any US Michelin rated restaurants?
So, do you know of any restaurants with Michelin stars in your neck of the woods?
What are they? Have you been? How well did you like the experience? Just curious. I don't know where/what they are and as far as I know, have never been. I'd like to try some at some point.

been to two...fifth floor, and Aqua...both in san francisco.
i like going to a high end meals every once in awhile. it is nice to see the pros in action. a great waitstaff is something to behold. my wife has been to many, in her past career they wined and dined.

They are basically temples of dining. Michelin seems to look for: attitude, ambiance, service & cuisine. I have eaten at several 1, 2 & 3 Star restaurants in the US & France. The emphasis has always been on French-style cooking where they appear to try to use as many disgusting parts of the fish/animal as possible (only half joking here).
For the US starred restaurants see: Michelin Guide & click on the city. For a map of all 3 Stars in the Guide see: 3 Stars That said, the finest dining experience - service & food - that I have ever had was in a 3 starred (now demoted to 2) restaurant in Paris: Le Taillevant. The secret to their service was cameras. They had cameras in the dining room & communicated service needs to the wait staff. It really was exquisite. The bill was 1068€ for 4 in 2002 - half of that bill was the wine. Make sure that somebody else is paying! Ian

Ditto on that. TO me it's not so much food, you can get 95% of the food taste in cheaper places... But the service in highly rated restaurants is amazing... Last time we had like 5 different waiters for the table, each with a separate role/specialty, pretty cool... Something special worth doing now and then !

I consult the Michelin guide on where to eat like I use the PET to locate Porsche parts. I've been fortunate to continue working my way through the book, and even more fortunate that our wine is carried by a disproportionate number.
Especially at the lower end, the Guide is also excellent. I was in SF yesterday with my daughter. We decided to stop in Japan town for lunch, I remembered that Mifune was recommend and had the bargain icon. They have a great hand made noodle lunch for just $10.95. Great food, good value. With the emphasis on locally grown ingredients, SF is at a culinary zenith at all levels.

We've been to two 1 stars--the latest just a month ago in barcelona. My goodness--what an amazing experience.
Highly recommend even if you're not a huge food snob.
