Car Show at Work Today
Today is our annual charity car show at work, where we support a local "Books and Backpacks" drive for underpriviledged children going back to school in the fall. It's a pretty low-key show'n'shine kind of a deal.
Anyway, Magnum P.I. pulls in and parks next to me in his 308. Nice car; red with tan leather interior, in pretty much showroom condition. The guy places a sign inside both lower corners of the windshield saying "please do not touch. To guarantee your continued viewing pleasure of this fine automobile, it is requested that you look and do not touch". You guys probably know me well enough to guess what happens next. I scamper back in to my desk and make my own window sign that reads: "Please feel free to touch. To guarantee maximum viewing pleasure of this vehicle, it is requested that you feel free to touch it, crawl under and all around it, or anything else that enhances your viewing pleasure. You can even sit in it and make engine noises if you like. Thank you for your cooporation". |
Ha! That exactly what I would be inclined to do too Jeff!

Actually, under no conditions should anyone EVER touch someone else's car without the owners explicit permission. This isn't something that should require a posted placard, this should be a basic part of good manners and respect.
Unfortunately, we're often a little short of good manners and respect... I came out of a store a couple of years ago to find a fellow sitting on the fender of Steve's freshly painted 77 911S. With jeans, with rivets... As far as the "with permission" things go, I've let anybody who asks touch, sit in, etc., every car I've ever owned including the spyder. The spyder is a great hit at shows and everyone wants a picture of them in the car. Ask, and I'll even open the door and take the picture for you! At one show, a fellow asked me if his friend could touch the spyder. The friend was blind. By all means, friend-I-have-just-met, touch away and "see" how beautiful it is. angela |

The other day at a gas station with my 1912 Model T Ford, a couple of people asked me if they could take a picture of the car not of me, just the car. It was very refreshing in this age of cameras everywhere, that people would have the courtesy to ask before snapping a shot. |

I would have paid to see that...I suppose you took out that knife and chased that azzhole under a parked car stabbing him through the rivets in his levis. Steve is a happy man.. You know this thread is no good without pictures...We all want to see you with that knife... Seriously Ha! Bob |

my last "show" car was a 69 fj-40 we found in a barn and mechanically restored it, so it wasn't any jewel but at the classics under the gunks show we have around here it was a HUGE hit and even when i was competing against perfect gto's and and many foreign sports cars i still had some votes for best in show, only because it brought back memories to allot of people who used to own one and they loved siting in it playing with things etc. They loved that it was my dd and it wasn't just another trailer queen. I hate when people lean or sit on any of the pcars i don't mind sitting in but on is over the line.

Good to see you're flying the RG flag correctly out there :D I'm a bit disappointed though that the car was sitting stationary and you weren't offering free joyrides or something. Now I know you didn't wash the car before the show ... so I won't even ask about that.

Would you do a thread on how to remove beer cans with a leaf blower ?
Do you think it works for bottles too ? |
