I agree re good noises.

Electric vehicles make more sense as sedans, trucks etc. Think about how much Lexus spends to deaden engine noise...

What happened to the PML Flightlink Mini Cooper QED?

That's pretty cool! Unsprung weight might be a bit high, but cool nonetheless!

And as Jay Leno volunteered in a recent interview, the more alternative energy cars there are, the more oil there will be to power vintage sports cars, like Austin Healy's, MG's, Porsches, etc. Leno conveniently didn't mention this one in his stable:

Guestimates; about 3 mpg.

But he's right.

The hubcentric motors are pretty light and there are no rotors or calipers so the unsprung weight is not a real problem. Plus, with 640 HP...

That's what my first thought was too. Tho, impressively they didn't add much. And, when taken as a ratio of sprung weight it becomes even less significant.

Moses has it right, that those guys are on a better path than is Tesla --other than securing hundreds of Millions of tax-payer dollars from BarryO. CAH-Ching!

The main thing an ICE only car can't do that a hybrid or electric car can do is recover energy under braking. Sure I can get 20 mpg in my truck at a steady 65 mph, but the rest of the time it gets about 13 mpg. If it was a hybrid, it would get 20 mpg all the time (or at least 18 mpg or so.)

m21sniper 08-10-2009 05:33 AM

Not entirely true. The ICE vehicle could recover the energy and then shut down the alternator when the recovery battery is at full charge.

I'm sure that with the cubic dollars this dude has available, he could have leased something better.

It's probably just a lousy picture of her. And besides, finding interesting, intelligent, non-self centered/shallow hotties is NOT easy.

Most super hot chicks are quite dim and TOTALLY into themselves.

Then you'd have a hybrid.

I meant simply recover the braking energy and store that- not the actual engine energy.

A lot of not-hot chicks are this way too...

[QUOTE=cl8ton;4823814]But seriously, if I’m going to fork over >$100k for a car, it had better have the following qualities…

A) Wife/Girlfriend smells like unburned fuel at the end of the drive
B) Garage smells like burning oil/hot German metal after a hard drive
C) No stereo cause I want to hear the pipes roar
D) 5 point harness
E) No cup holders
F) Terrified cars at a stoplight next to me

I would pay a bit more and just buy a GT3 :D

anyway she is very cute in person and very nice too, seemed smart and she was telling me about the components of the Tesla car and the science behind it.

m21sniper 08-10-2009 05:21 PM

I'd hit it.

BlueSkyJaunte 08-10-2009 07:18 PM

I detect a nosejob somewhere between those two pics.
