My old laptop

I'd like to essentially format the drive and start over.

It's an old hand-me-down Sony Vaio.
No CD drive.

I have a USB SD card reader.

What's the process.
Which OS should I use.

Is it worth the effort?
The thing needs a new battery.
I like using it at the track or trips plugged into my power inverter.

A few months ago it started having connectivity issues.
I can connect using my wireless device, but the browser won't load anything.
Says I'm not connected.

Thanks,

KT

I'd just look for a deal on a sub notebook. You can find em for just north of $200 if you are patient and keep an eye out.

Should be some back to school sales on em by now.

You will need a USB external cd/dvd drive to reinstall OS.

On an older unit use XP.

Batteries are relatively cheap on ebay, etc. I put a new aftermarket one in my Toshiba for $55. Works great.
Genuine Toshiba was about 3X that price.

How much RAM? If less than 512, XP will be terribly slow.

I don't recall the RAM amount.
We added another chip recently.

It currently runs XP. It was OK.

I like to post remotely...
The machine seems to have some corruptions.
Error messages on start-up.

Check these bad boys out . I have the Mi edition (it runs a modified Ubuntu), but you can get an XP model. The keyboard is 92% normal while keeping the thing tiny .

KT,
It's really not worth the effort. If you really wanted me to, you could send me the laptop and I'll load XP on it for you, but the cost of shipping would be more then the thing is worth.

Yeah, it looks like this old laptop is done.

I knew that new machines were coming way down in price.
Thanks for the replies.
