On This Day, in 1977, The King Died...

Where were you when Elvis died (those of you who were born)???

I was in Brownsville,TX, family vacation, been to Mexico and getting rready to go visit my Grandfather in San Angelo..

My mother is a huge fan, she was at one of his first concerts, here in Jacksonville, in 1956,( and a friend's father threatened to jail him http://www.elvispresleymusic.com.au/pictur...ust_10_11.html)

she was also at him in May, 1977 in Jacksonville, she snuck in a tape recorder and still has that tape...

In Stuttgart. Was barely a byline in the paper which surprised me a bit.

I was in high school. Had an afternoon/weekend job at Winn-Dixie sacking groceries.
I had come home for lunch and was on the way back when they announced it on the radio.
Made me sad for his loss as I liked his music... and the movies with Ann Margaret!

I was in Lakehurst NJ, spending the week with my grandparents. I thought it was a joke when I heard the news.

Well, not exactly Elvis, but James Burton is our neighbor and "pickin' buddy". He's in Japan right now doing the "big show".

Living in Germany, but in England that week. Every paper had it on the front page.

I was a little kid, i remember all the girls crying. My GF included, and i had never even knew she liked him.

It was much the same when John Lennon died too.

1977? Man I don't remember 1977.

Never, ever, was an Elvis fan anyway, and I even worked for RCA!

Working at MIT on a summer project on a Tokamac fusion reactor. I was silver soldering electrical connections for this really, really big copper buss from the transformers to these big a$$ 5 farad capacitors that were the size of 40 gallon trash cans. Wasn't a big fan, but certainly liked some of his music, even though I was into R&R. I think my favorite of his was "Kentucky Rain".
